Epetey40 Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 We are traveling to Philadelphia for a few days and are making the trip to New York (first timers). We will be there Sunday October 9th through Tuesday October 11th. We are looking for help where to stay to see all the sights. We have thought about staying in Hoboken and making the trip over to the city both Sunday and Monday. Any thoughts to if we should stay in NYC or NJ? Also we would like to see the statue of liberty, ground zero, and also possibly go to a play. We definitely want to try some NYC restaurants (not expensive ones) and experience a NYC hot dogger. Also, we have a car rented out for Thur-Sunday, would it be best to just return the car on Sunday and cab it to our hotel to get rid of the car and not have to pay for parking and deal with driving in NYC? Please help!!!
AaronJB Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, this is an expensive time of year in NYC; it's most optimal to spend your time in NYC and be able to wake up and go right out into the city, but depending on budget, you could also choose to stay in Hoboken and commute. What would be your desired budget per night? I'd definitely find a way not to have to drive into the city; the hassle of driving combined with very high parking costs are definitely not a plus.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Epetey40 Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 We could spend up to a couple hundred bucks a night for a hotel no problem. I am just worried about parking costs if we would have a car at the hotel. We wouldn't be driving the car around the city other than to get to the hotel. Any thoughts?
thereuare Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I'm not following the car dilemma... you have a car reserved for Thur-Sunday and your NYC dates are Sunday-Tuesday... so where would the overlap come into play? Where are you renting the car from, Philadelphia? If you return the car Sunday, how do you intend to get to NYC?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click each of these previous links before replying.Thanks. The rental is from LaGuardia. Then take a cab downtown to the hotel since parking/driving in the city is not good.

Any suggestions on things to see?
AaronJB Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this Hilton property, especially on a busy set of dates.I think the one "must" that isn't commonly talked about is the Intrepid Air/Space Museum, which I think is a really neat/unique experience. I'll also recommend the Natural History Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art highly. thereuare Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 If the weather is nice you can take the subway to Brooklyn, get off at the first stop, High St, then walk the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan, taking in the skyline on your way back. If you desire, when in Brooklyn eat at Grimaldi's Pizza (short walk from the subway) but expect a line unless you get there when they first open... can also walk to the promenade to get a nice view of the city afterwards. Not too far from your hotel this place has very good pizza (it's a restaurant, not a slice shop), stick with the rectangle pizza which is very reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients, although drinks are a little pricey:Adrienne's Pizza Bar54 Stone StreetNew York, NY 10005Have a great time in New York.
