Help quick need to bid for leave

Hi-

I posted over on the Mexico board as well. I am new to Priceline. I used them back in 2001 when I bought a hard to find SUV but never for travel....I want to try and bid for air and then hotel/resort for a quick stay in Cancun. My husband is active duty Marine and just found out he has leave July 4th. I have no clue how to go about this. I have done my research via my TA, Apple Vacation and all of the major travel sites (Expedia, Sidestep, Orbitz, Travelocity and Hotwire)....in just 2 days the price shot up like crazy. I know from the prices I do have vacation package is the way to go but I have nothing to lose in trying to bid each (air and hotel/resort). I can tell from the prices I have that I can go much lower than $800 per ticket but how low when all fee's and taxes are added?

July 1-July 5th (4 nights)

resort or 4 star non inclusive

out of OAJ (Jacksonville NC) or if have to ILM (Jacksonville NC)

Any suggestions on a starting bidding price would be appreciated.
