m3kgt97 Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hello everyone, I'm looking for a 3* or 4* in Amsterdam from 10/14 to 10/16. Wondering if anyone knows what's going on that weekend, because I have gone up to $100 the past few days using North as a rebid zone and no luck yet. I've seen successful bids in the $70s and $80s, so was just curious. Thanks for any help.
thereuare Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages. The marathon is October 16th, and while i don't know the particulars of the marathon in Amsterdam, if it's anything like the marathon in other cities, hotels in the host city go up dramatically and/or sell-out.What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. m3kgt97 Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 ah that explains it. Ugh. So much for trip planning. Darn. Guess I'll have to retry at higher prices. Thanks for the answer.I'm seeing $235 and $248 on HOTWIRE, $218 on Expedia. Yes i've been using the links you guys provide...
PierreC Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 In a situation like yours id add Airport region for your bid. Because of the marathon and the fact that Amsterdam's hotels are always expensive your best bet is the airport. THere is a couple of great place over there; the Hilton and specially the Sheraton (4*). Beside, the direct train to Amsterdam (15min) is right at your door step. All of this for just under 3E.
thereuare Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 I'm seeing $235 and $248 on HOTWIRE, $218 on Expedia. Are these for 3* or 4* properties? Given these rates how high are you willing to bid for a 4*? for a 3*?Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. (or our Expedia link should you ultimately go that route) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
m3kgt97 Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 There are 3, 3.5, and 4 star properties for the low 200s. So the airport hotels are that easy to get to? I'll look into that now, thanks
PierreC Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Of course it would be more pleasant to be right in the middle of Leidseplein but if the price is something you cant afford then the airport is a good alternative. The Sheraton airport is right inside the terminal and as far as im concern is the best hotel i ever been.
m3kgt97 Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 yea we are leaning towards the airport locations. How easy is it to get back to the hotel at night after the trains stop running? I see after-hours buses, but not really sure where they leave you off.
Romelle Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 The trains run all night. Only hourly after midnight, but they do keep running. They become more frequent again about 5 AM. If you don't get the Sheraton (walkable), you then would have to take the hotel shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Or a cab if the hotel shuttles don't run in the middle of the night.Usually, hotels can give good information about bus service.Romelle
m3kgt97 Posted September 17, 2011 Author Report Posted September 17, 2011 thanks for the advice romelle! I'm going to still try for the center city, but if that gets too high we'll do airport and figure it out.
m3kgt97 Posted September 17, 2011 Author Report Posted September 17, 2011 I tried south zone, just because it's a little closer than the airport. Got Nh Musica for $130/night. Not ideal, but for a marathon weekend, it's the best option I suppose. Thanks for everyone's help.so you live in hoboken? I'm up there frequently. Neato.
