PierreC Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 There is something i dont understand about Priceline these days. I just got a strange 3* hotel for a 5 night stay in Paris that cost me 125 dollars per night (i believe this not a great deal if you take in consideration the quality of the hotel the Exclusive Hotel Beaugrenelle Tour Eiffel ).Now im bidding for a 3 nights stay in Marseille, france from october 17th to the 20th. Today i got turned down on a 130 dollars bid for a 4*. They send me a counteroffer of ....180 dollars !!Yesterday i did include 3* and bid 120 dollars and got turned down. Whats surprising about this whole thing is that looking at the retail price of the same 3* hotel that i just got turned down was....115 dollars !!Now where is the deal in there ??More and more Priceline isnt where i go for my hotel rooms anymore. Somethins is wrong.Any thoughts on this ?
PierreC Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 Forget about this last post. I couldnt find that 3* at 115 dollars again. Maybe it was a 2* i dont know. All i know its that 3 * are now around 200 dollars retail price.200 dollars for a 3* Marseille hotel in october ?Geezzz
thereuare Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 As far as i can see, there are not too many hotels in this area and this often translates into less competition and discounts which are not as deep as their big city counterparts. How high are you willing to bid in this zone given $200 is the best rate you're able to find elsewhere? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. PierreC Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 Im not going to go very high. 150 for a 4* is top for me, because if i would go higher there wouldnt be any deal in there. I dont think i will bid for a 3* in Marseille. i just received a 3* hotel in Paris that i thought was not "priceline" type of hotel so im not feeling to well about anymore 3* bid in Marseille.I might use the conventionnal way. Ill let you know.

vazworld Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I'll go to Marseille on October 22 for a night only and I found Hotwire having a better discount for 4*. I'm going to go for the deal and will keep you posted what I get.
PierreC Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 Wow i couldnt believe this. A marriott right in city center for about 110 dollars !!Im happy about this.I dont know if you remember or care but im the one who was suppose to go to Marseille october 17th to 20th 2011. Ive changed my gear since it was impossible to get a good hotel for a fare deal in Marseille. My bid was up to 175 dollars for a 4* without any success
PierreC Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 forgot to tell that i previously bid 100 dollars for a 5 * got denied but got a counter-offer of 124 dollars. Declined and re-bid immediately again a 5 * at 110 and got accepted. Strange priceline accepted my immediate rebidding. And i wont be flying from Caen but Paris instead.Im was so happy with this bid that i decided to try to extend my stay, extra date october 16th....accepted immediately !So my stay is october 16th to the 20th 2011.
Romelle Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 I don't know if you've been to Vienna before, but just in case you haven't - Vienna is wonderfully organized. There are 23 districts, with 1 being in the center, then 2 - 9 in a ring around it, and then the remaining in a larger ring around the smaller ring. Postal codes are 4 digits. The first is a '1' for Vienna, and the next two indicate the district. So you can tell in an instant if you are looking at someplace in the inner area (101 - 108) or further out (109-123)The subway is color-coded very nicely. The trams are fun to ride. One of them used to make a nice ring right around the inner city, but I think now you have to hop off one and onto another. Still, a nice and low cost tourist thing. Most important places include the name of the nearest subway stop in their address information.Good choice, after Marseille didn't pan out. You'll wish you had even more time.Romelle
PierreC Posted September 21, 2011 Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 This is what happened when you want to see everything. Im flying to France to see the D-Day landing sight first, a couple concerts and now Vienna.I wanted to see the south of France but the hotels prices are impossible. Still i love this arrangement, my flight is not from Caen but back from Paris to Vienna, direct flight under 2 hours.Couldnt ask for anything better, thanks for the tips about Vienna..and no i've never been there.
