Hi,

I just wanted to share my failed bids with the board. I am planning a trip to Chicago on 9/15 - 9/19. I would like to stay downtown - hopefully, in an area with some night life. I would like to get a room for under $140 per night. However, rates are higher than I expected. I started bidding on 4* rooms, but, since I have not had success, I have started bidding down to a 2.5*. Hotwire's rates also appear to be quite high on those dates.

Millenium 4* $110

Add Millennium Loop $115 X

Add Franklin $120 X

Add Hyde P $126 X

Add Lincoln $130 X

Unfortunately, these are very busy dates (across the board unfortunately, although possibly a convention or something else going on. I do see a 3* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area on HOTWIRE for $156 (I'm guessing either the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza or Four Points Sheraton) Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry. So, you're not likely far off from a win at the 3* level.

If you're driving and don't mind taking the train in, you could stay outside the city in a nice area for probably less than half (at least in the North 'burbs) of downtown rates.

I finally won. I took a chance and waited. I saw the 3* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area on HOTWIRE drop to $146, so I used the PRICELINE link and tried again. I also added Greater Chicago. I won the Hyatt McCormick Place for $125 per night, which made me under budget. I am excited, but I hope I didn't make a mistake by not spending more and going with the 3* from Hotwire-both hotels looked great.

I won the Hyatt McCormick Place for $125/night for 9/15-9/19.

Aaron, thanks for your help. I apologize for the poor format of my post. I'm posting with my iPhone.

Congrats on your success. :)

Happy to help!

Very nice deal for this Hyatt property. I'm not seeing any details on the hotel website right now, but I believe the hotel has a one-way shuttle to downtown. Otherwise, there is also a Metra stop right next door for McCormick Place.

Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.
