Hey folks,

As the title of the thread say I'm completely new to Priceline so would really appreciate any help I could get from ye.

I am heading to New York on October 29th for 5 nights and am looking to book a 4* hotel so I have a bit of time to play with. I am pretty open on Location MTE, MTW, TS, HK, Empire State, Central Park South also wouldn't be too bad, I'm pretty flexible really, just want a nice hotel in a convenient location. I would be hoping to get something for 150 dollars a night or below would be great. Am I being a bit unrealistic with this or is there a good chance I will get something.

I also saw a 3.5* in MSG, Affina Manhattan, looks pretty good also. What would I expect to get that at from past experience?

With regards starting the bidding process, am I doing so too early or does that make any difference to the price, is the later the better?

This is probably not realistic for a 4* for these dates... i'm guessing you're likely looking about $180-$200.

You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. Would you be willing to accept any 3.5* hotel in this zone? (also, while the general reviews of the Affinia Manhattan are good, note that there have been some experience here of '3rd party booking bias' and some users have received very small rooms without kitehnettes which are reported to be of lesser quality then most other rooms at this property.
With regards starting the bidding process, am I doing so too early or does that make any difference to the price, is the later the better?
See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ. I will add that historically this is a very busy time of year in NYC (and for some reason right around Halloween tend to be busy dates within a busy season) so i would typically recommend to secure something sooner rather than later... but the current economic conditions of the last 2 weeks in the US make this a bit more of an 'unknown', should be economic conditions (or fears of the economic condition) get worse it could have an effect on hotel rates.

Thanks very much for the initial help, I really appreciate it. I checked can I bid on the US site accessed through here and I can so will use the PRICELINE link on here going forward. I've decided I'm going to go with a 4* if I can. MTE, MTW, HK, TS, ESB would be my first choices but im very open to sometjing in MSG (don't think there is a 4* though) and CPS or even Chelsea. I think the max I will go will be 185/190 dollars per night. If you have a strategy you think I could secure one at it would be great.

With regards 3.5* hotels, if I fail with my bid on 4* is there any of the area that have really good 3.5* hotels?

Thanks again

Did you want to include CPS and/or Chelsea in your first round of bidding... OR id you want to bid the first group of zones up to $190, then if rejected re-try including CPS and/or Chelsea?

Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Hi i'm heading to NYC on the 29th of october for 5 nights and have found a 4 star for 308 dollars per night including tax.

Not sure if thats a good rate for this hotel or should I hold off a few days and see does it drop.

Amenities are

Boutique Hotel

Fitness Center

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

High-Speed Internet Access

I was hoping it was Hotel Indigo as that looks really nice. Not sure if thats a good rate for this hotel or should I hold off a few days and see does it drop.

The customer satisfaction was 95% last night but seems to be 90% today. If anyone could let me know which hotel they think it is it would be great!

This would be a potential match for the Indigo; there is no way to know for sure if rates will fall closer to your dates - this is discussed in greater detail in the FAQ.

This is a particularly busy time of year for NYC, so while rates could cool off, there is definitely a risk they could go higher if traffic holds up. If MTE is acceptable, there's a 4* for $257 before taxes/fees w/Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Tennis that could be the Intercontinental or Grand Hyatt.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

While amenities associated with a hotel can change at any time, there Wyndham has never been seen with this exact amenity set. So while i have no reason to say this can't be the Wyndham, and i wouldn't exclude it from the possibilities, the Hotel Indigo would be the better guess.
