retfar Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Hi there. I was hoping you could help me with a bidding strategy. I am going to New York Nov 17-24 and was hoping to stay in Times Square. My budget is $200 a night (or lower) and I don't mind a 3.5* or 4*. I'm seeing lots of Broadway shows (nine in a week) and I tend to hang around Times Square so this is why I'd prefer to find something there. I guess I could also stay at Madison Square Garden/Chelsea, but would like to try to isolate to Times Square if possible for now. I saw $182 for 3.5* Chelsea/MSG with Hotwire, which I suspect is the New Yorker. I've stayed there before and it was fine, so I don't mind staying there. But if I can beat that rate with Priceline since I've had better success at getting cheaper rates with them, then that would be great...but ideally at one of the Times Square hotels. I'm a bit worried that a Chelsea/MSG hotel might end up around 23rd St or so which is not as close to Times Square as I want. The New Yorker was only about 8 blocks away, which was good.Anyway, I would appreciate any help you can give me with a bidding strategy.
thereuare Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 I think under $200 in the Times Square zone may be tough, but to give it a try...At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Times Square...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone3...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. retfar Posted August 31, 2011 Author Report Posted August 31, 2011 Thanks so much for that. I tried it, but got rejected even at the $200 level. I might try again or go with HOTWIRE to be safer. :) I will let you know how I go.

retfar Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Managed to book The New Yorker using Hotwire (followed your HOTWIRE link).Amenities included:FitnessRestaurantBusiness centreHigh-speed internetI was trying to find something in Times Square using Priceline and you helped me out with a bidding strategy of up to $200. I kept getting rejected. I upped that to $210 and then $220 and was still being rejected. So I just decided to use Hotwire as I was pretty sure this hotel was going to be the New Yorker. Although not in Times Square, it's quite close in a great area and I've stayed there the last two visits to New York (thanks to Hotwire!)Again, thanks for all your help as always. I'm very happy with this result.Javi
