ellsbells Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Just started reading the forums tonight to figure out how to get around the 24 hour hold on priceline bidding. Definitely appreciate all the great information. I'm trying to get a 4 or 5* on the strip (north or south doesn't matter) for OCT 8-11. I started my bidding at $90 and got up to $115 (figured it'd probably be too low) with no luck. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow! The only weird thing that I ran into is when I was checking zones it showed that zone 14 (nellis) only had 3* and below but then when I checked that box to try to do a bid with that zone the average 4* hotel rate went from $285 down to $105! I figured that couldn't be a good sign and that there actually might be a 4* in that zone so I didn't use it to bid. Any thoughts on that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I've never used hotwire so I'll be checking that out too.
thereuare Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! The average rate shown by PRICELINE is often flawed so i wouldn't read into the average price changing when selecting Nellis. HOWEVER, don't fall for the common mistake of thinking that Summerlin is a re-bid zones as Summerlin is not a re-bid zones since even though it doesn't have 4* hotels, it does have Resort class properties, and a 4* bid can be upgraded to a Resort class property. At the 4* level are you ok with the Westin, which is in PRICELINE's Strip South zone but located slightly off-strip?I don't think you're too far from a win... let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ellsbells Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 The westin would be fine. We've stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation at the Flamingo which is right by there and the location is fine. Right now we'd like to keep our budget at $130 if we can. Thanks for the help! I didn't know about Summerlin's resort so it's a good thing I didn't get that bid!
thereuare Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Strip South...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Strip North...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Strip North and Strip South...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ellsbells Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 No luck today. Darn! Do you suggest just doing the same thing tomorrow? Do you think adding 3 1/2* would be helpful or would it just hurt my chances more because it takes out one of the rebidding zones?
thereuare Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 You could always lower your star rating to 3.5* and we can adjust bidding prices accordingly. However, HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Strip South zone for $139/nite and a 4* in the Strip North zone for $135/nite, so you may want to consider another $5 to your bids above or try to ID these HOTWIRE properties and go with one of these.Another option you may want to consider is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID. I think you can get a 5* hotel for 10/8-10/10 for less then you have already bid... then change to a 4* hotel for the last nite of your stay. This in total can be done for less then you have bid, and you'll get a higher rated hotel for 2 out of 3 nites... but you'll need to change hotels mid-stay.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ellsbells Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 I think I'll try to identify the hotwire ones first if that doesn't work then I'll consider either lowering the star rating or splitting the time.

ellsbells Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 Okay I think the 4* North for $137 on hotwire is TI. Though I wouldn't mind staying there I would prefere to try to get something else. I just realized I haven't stated that we are trying to get 2 hotel rooms. I've been bidding for both at the same time because I would like for all 4 of us to stay at the same hotel. I think we're going to to try to split the bid! What do you think would be a good statagy for that?
thereuare Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Strip South zone with:Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Golf, SpaThis matches the MGM Grand and the NYNY so this would be my best guess for this one. There is also a 4* hotel in HOTWIRE's Strip North zone with:Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Golf, Spawhich is a match for previous reports of Treasure Island and that would be my best guess here. The 5* options i saw yesterday are no longer offered at the very low rates they were previously, so i don't necessarily think that SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is as worthwhile of an option anymore. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. ellsbells Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 No luck again today. Any tips for bidding at 3.5*?
thereuare Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Not sure if you prefer to lower your star rating for one hotel OR SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, but this is what is currently offered when searching HOTWIRE for 2rooms/4adults:10/8-10/94* Las Vegas Strip South at $150/nite(i'm guessing Westin)10/9-10/114* Las Vegas Strip North at $118/nite(i'm guessing Treasure Island)Taking the average of the 3 nites above comes to $129/nite... or the 4* Strip North property is available for your complete stay for $142/nite if it's worth an extra ~$10/nite to not have to change hotels... or you can lower your bidding to 3.5*... or try the above split dates on PRICELINE at the 4* level.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
