kevmack77 Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Hello All,First, I've read some on this board and find it much more laid back and helpful than other websites. Thanks, in adavance, for all your helpAnyway, my wife and I are headed to Chciago for our first time from 9/24-9/28. I just bid tonight for the first time, using re-bids from $92 up to $109 (4*) for NMA and MP. Are these bids way low? I checked the convention calendar, and it didnt seem to be too crazy, but not real sure what to go by. Also, when I go to bid again tomorrow night, should I start bidding above my high bid of tonight (109) or do bids sometimes get accepted lower, the following day? I wouldn't like to go above $120, but dont know if that's unrealistic for those dates,zones,..
AaronJB Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There is always the possibility that inventory at lower rates may come online at some point, but there's no way to guarantee or know. Waiting until closer to your dates for rates to cool off is a risk that sometimes pays off, but sometimes does not and rates can ramp up suddenly.Chicago is - unfortunately - busier in the Fall/early Winter with nicer weather and conventions or other events. Rates are not sky-high for these days, but they are a bit on the high side. I would suggest continuing to head slowly higher to $120; a 4* on these dates may end up taking more than $120, although I'd really guess if it does take over $120 it would not take much more than $120 ($130-135 tops, I'd guess) if that's the case.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kevmack77 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 Thanks, for your reply. After I posted that last night, I went back to Priceline and looked at what their 3 1/2 star hotels were, and I realized that we would be happy with a 3 1/2 star place as well. What do you think would be a solid bid for a 3 1/2 star? Thanks!!
thereuare Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 I don't think you're going to save much by going for a 3.5*... you can certainly try that up to amounts you have already bid ($110), then if rejected try for a 4*, but i agree with AaronJB that a $120 bid will get you very close to a 4* hotel, but it's up to you whether you first want to bid up to your original $120 limit (or a little higher if you choose) for a 4* or prefer to try for a slightly cheaper 3.5*.Let us know how you'd like to proceed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kevmack77 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 Minutes, after I last posted, I went to Priceline and bid 100, then, 105, and 110 with re-bids, for a 3 1/2 star. My 110 was accepted and I got the Doubletree Mag Mile. I am going to be honest here, I acted so fast and totally, 100% percent forgot to use your PRICELINE link. ( I see now why you constantly remind people to use the your link) I will definetly use it next time, and I have already told a bunch of people about your great site. Thanks for your help
AaronJB Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this Doubletree property, which is in an excellent location. I often recommend Fox and Obel Market and Cafe (fox-obel.com), which is a couple of minutes walk SE at the corner of Illinois and McClurg. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
