esga Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Hi, this is my first time here and I have already found the information most useful. I understand how to add zones to increase the number of bids. I want a room in a 4 star hotel for the night of Oct. 8. There are 2 of us, so we have already both bid and been rejected at $135, 150 and 175 for 4 stars in the Quincy Market area. I believe we tried for 4 or 3.5 start at $135 and 150 in Quincy Market, and then I tried (under my name) at $175 for both Quincy Market and Copley Square, all rejected.I wonder if I have started too early. I looked at the calendar of wins and see almost nothing for that weekend. Are hotels more inclined to accept as the dates get closer? Or is the problem that rooms are likely to be tight Columbus Day weekend? Any help appreciated! We just want to do the usual tourist things, walking or using public transportation. I thought those would be the best areas, but am open to recommendations of adding others.
AaronJB Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Boston can definitely be expensive during the Fall season, and especially if it's a holiday period. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
esga Posted September 5, 2011 Author Report Posted September 5, 2011 We wanted the best price we could get, really in the Quincy Market area, secondly Copley Square. The comparator was $263 w/o fees and taxes at the Parker House, offered on several websites. That was exactly where we wanted. We decided that it was worth no more than $200 to us to be farther afield in Copley Square. So I went back on Priceline (using this site's link) after looking at PL's hotels in each area, checked Quincy Market and Medford, upped y bid to $190, and got nothing. I added another safe zone and went up to $200, then $220, still nothing. I dropped back to $190, then $200, adding Copley Square. Still nothing. So I went to Travelocity, where I often book, and booked the Parker House. There are 2 of us, we know what we are getting, and the worry is over. I have no idea what might finally have been accepted on PL, but after $220 was rejected, the difference per person isn't that much, so we are happy and convinced we covered all our options, thanks to the information we got here.I will definitely use the resources of this board again. Even though i didn't get a cheaper room, it helped me feel well informed.
AaronJB Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Thank you for closing the thread. Glad you were able to get a satisfactory rate at this extremely historic property (which I believe is the longest continually running hotel in the US.)Enjoy your stay. Please use the site's Travelocity link to start your purchases and searches.
