Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please provide the full list of amenities that HOTWIRE shows so that we know we're looking at the same property.

Although i know June has been expensive in NYC, that sounds a bit high... check out the 1BR suite at the Beekman Tower for $175/nite (reviews) or a Studio Suite at the AFFINIA DUMONT for $185/nite (reviews)

I used the link and made a reservation for the affinia dumont. I was excited about the rate. It turns out the rate was not guaranteed.

So I called and they said they had room for 4 of the 6 days that I needed but needed to check with the hotel for the other 2 days. At worst case I would have to pay more for those 2 days.

I called back the next day and a woman told me that they received a fax from the hotel and the only rate they could provide me was for $365 dollars/night. I asked if that would be all nights or just 2 of the 6. It was all nights.

Is this a scam to get your credit card numbers? The first guy I talked to seemed nice and helpful.

I see they have another reservation available (maybe?) for this hotel description:

Urban adventure, daredevil design, and true affordability meet in this hotel, the ultimate lifestyle hotel for the 21st century. Close to Central Park and the theater district, the hotel is a brilliant reflection of the boldness and diversity of the city - the quintessential New York hotel. Trendy yet elegant, this hotel provides guests with spacious, artfully decorated accommodations, in an eclectic minimalist style exuding a feeling of upscale living found in only the best New York hotels. Every trendy yet elegant room offers a Queen size bed, private bath and CD player/stereo. If you enjoy a more active lifestyle, the hotel offers a well equipped, state-of-the-art fitness center as well. Whether visiting for business or pleasure, guests will find this hotel to be the perfect choice combining unparalleled location, lavish accommodations and thoughtful amenities.

I asked the woman on the phone in light of the fact that I lost the other one if she could tell me where this is located. She said no I must book it first.

Can anyone out there help?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

A couple of problems with your post (which has been separated from the post it was replied to)....

You didn't include the dates of your stay, but i would suspect that they were different than the thread you had replied to. Even if for the same dates, you probably attempted to buy a few days after the links above were supplied.

EasyClickTravel shows each listing as "Available" or "On Request"... available hotels are confirmed immediately; while on request hotels means that they have sold their allotment of rooms but will contact the hotel to see if they can get additional inventory at their previously negotated price.

I am fairly certain based upon the comments that you bought a hotel that was listed as "On Request"... as stated above, these reservations are not confirmed and you are given a message stating such (did you read it?). So you didn't 'lose' the other reservation and ECT did nothing wrong in this situation.

Regarding the new rate applying to the entire stay, it sounds like there was some miscommunication... not sure if on the CSR's end or yours. If EasyClickTravel listed availability at a specific price for those dates, then that room is available at that price. It is possible that the rates for the additional nites were so expensive that it brought the average nightly rate up to the 'new' price and that is what the CSR quoted you... or she could have made a mistake, but they will honor rates that are listed on their website and listed as 'available'.

If you'd like to know the identification of any "off the record" hotels we recommend you use our EASY CLICK TRAVEL REVERSE LOOK-UP tool. If the hotel is not identified there are instructions for you to follow to have it researched.

If you supply the dates of your stay and your needs we will try to help with your finding the best deal.

Thank you for your response.

I understood that my reservation was "on request" and not guaranteed. The first guy I spoke with over the telephone said he didn't understand why it was "on request" since they had availabilty for my dates. He then discovered that 2 of the 6 days were not available.

The reason I used the terminology of having lost my reservation was that he assured me that I could have the 4 days at the original rate. The second person I spoke to the following day said no deal. The $365 rate would apply to all days. She may not have known what she was talking about but she wasn't going to budge from that statement.

Anyway, I've searched around a bit and have made a reservation for The Blakely through Quikbook for $229/night. My dates are June 24 for 6 nights.

Do you know anything about the Blakely? I was enthusiastic about the Affinia Dumont because it sounded nice and the rate was really good.

I am travelling to attend a conference located at The Intercontinental The Barclay. Hopefully the location of the Blakely will work out. The conference is just for 2 days so I will have 4 other days in NYC for other things.

Any thoughts on the above? I have enjoyed reading your other forum posts.

The reviews seem pretty good, although for the same amount of money (actually a few dollars less since there is no booking fee) i'm partial to the BEEKMAN TOWER. I like the idea of the extra space and some quiet at the end of the day. When i travel i usually try to be "a local with a day off", so the apartment setting fits well with my personality rather than being in a touristy part of town.

Have you thought about SPLITTING YOUR STAY?

The Beekman would certainly be convenient to get to the conference and the reviews can't be beat.
