sweetweb Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Hi I've used Priceline over 5 years ago to secure a great deal on a hotel in SF but for my upcoming trip to NYC I need help please...InfoDate: Sept 27th to Oct. 2ndHotel: 3 StarsLocation: Pretty flexible (MTE, MTW, UES, UWS, EMP, TS, MSG)Budget: Max $190/nightI can't seem to get a winning bid and have been trying the past couple weeks. Can anybody advise me on a strategy or if I showed lower my it to 2.5 stars?Thank you!Tom
AaronJB Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The Fall in NYC is a very expensive period, unfortunately, although looking at rates I think you may have a chance at the higher end of your budget. What bids have you tried so far?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
sweetweb Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 Hey Aaron, thanks for the reply! This is my first trip to NYC and I heard fall/Spring is a great time to go as to avoid the extreme weather in Summer/Winter.I started my bid at $120 for MTE and increased my rebid $10 and added (Chelsea, MTW, EMP, UTE, UTW, TS & CPS) till my max budget of $190I'm wondering if I should lower to 2.5 stars now with the same bidding strategy? I would love a 3 star at least but I understand sometimes its not meant to be? Please advise...Thanks!Tom
thereuare Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 In NYC we don't typically recommend bidding under 3* as there becomes a greater and greater divergence between the better and worse hotels within the star rating... you could get a diamond in the rough which surpasses your expectations OR you could get something which doesn't meet your expectations in the least. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? I also don't think you're too far off, is it possible to extend your budget another $10 or so per nite? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
