Hi,

Thanks for all the resources on this board they have really helped a lot. I just wanted to share my bidding experience. I put in a bid for $85 in the Union Square East region and it got accepted on 8/30. Staying at the Drake from 9/5 - 9/8

I have been trying to several weeks now to get a 3* hotel for under $100 to no success. I have seen 3* hotels going for $60 on HOTWIRE a while back and I was kicking myself for not taking up that offer. So I know it is possible. Fast forward to yesterday. Normally on hotwire 3* is running around $119 and 3.5* about $150 for USE. Then yesterday 3.5* dropped to $106, which is a pretty good price already. I was about to place the order on HOTWIRE, since the trip is less than a week and I was getting a little desperate. But I decided what the heck I'll try PRICELINE again.

Earlier that day I had already placed bids up to $85 for 3* and was rejected. So using the bidding strategies and remembering that people have had good success bidding around 20-30% lower on PRICELINE, I tried again. I was able to place another bid for 3.5* @ $85 again. First bid at $85 was accepted. A little miffed that I got a bit impatient and should have started a little lower, but I'm still happy with the result and I was able to get a hotel in the exact region I wanted for under my budget.

My advice for last minute bidders check Hotwire daily! I was checking Hotwire up to 3 times a day to look for price drops. Once that price drops occurs on the area you want start bidding for least 30% lower on priceline. Patience is also a must, it is hard as the trip date draws closer. But you have to take big risks for big rewards. Happy bidding.
