lisarox Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Hi, thanks for this forum, it's helped me figure out how priceline works and best ways to strategize.I'm trying to score a hotel in NYC, preferably 3.5* or higher, and preferably around the LES for September 20-26, for under $200.I'm willing to stay in anything 2 or higher, just looking for a good deal, preferred location of Downtown/Soho or Chelsea.Over the past week, I've tried bidding in DSF, CHEL, HK, ME, MW, CPS at rates of $140-203, star ratings of 3 and higher. I still haven't gotten a bite and am wondering with the high tourist season, the UN session, and high hotel rates if I'm shooting in the dark. I don't have a safety reservation, but am willing to play it by ear and wait it out a bit. What are the chances I'll be able to score a 3 start or higher for under $200 for the full duration of Sep 20-26?
thereuare Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay, it all depends upon supply/demand for hotel rooms over this period. If i were to take a guess one way or the other, i would think that your chances are fairly low since 1) this is a six nite stay so you're not just looking for availability to come free on one particular nite, but for the most part for all dates in this date range, and 2) due to the nature of the UN meeting, this isn't a case of tourists booking 3-4 reservations and cancellng all but one a few days before their stay, chances are these are all mostly 'firm' reservations for which the majority of will not likely be canceled, and 3) at the moment it doesn't appear that prices are anywhere near $200, so you're looking for a fairly sharp drop-off in prices. You may want to consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and/or looking at a suburb, such as Brooklyn or Hoboken (NJ) which provide convenient access to Downtown. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how you proceed and how we can be of further help along the way. lisarox Posted September 2, 2011 Author Report Posted September 2, 2011 I tried splitting up the dates with no success. Tried bidding up to $220, 3 star and higher in DSF, CHEL, HK, ME, MW, CPS with no luck. I've booked on airbnb for the first three days, which appears to be the highest priced days and will continue on PRICELINE for Sep 23-26, aiming for a 3 star or higher for around $200. I'll post back if I am successful.
