jrmcfadden Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Need help with a bidding strategy, I need 1-2 rooms for 7/7 - 7/10.One question: Are my chances better or worse if I'm bidding for 2 rooms vs. 1?Prefferred is MTW with a max of $150.I have been reading these posts and I have seen one attempt for MTW during this time fail.Any help will be appreciated.
jrmcfadden Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 HW gave me a rate of $224. I specified 2 adults, 2 children and 1 room. Trying to determine if it's the Studio or 1BR. Expedia quotes rack rates of $218 for studio and $259 for 1BR.
JSKoehler Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Your chances are better bidding for 1 room if the hotel within your price range has only one room left, but otherwise it makes no difference (and there is no way to know if there is only one room left).$150 should be high enough for a 3* and maybe a 4*. Start your bidding at 4*/$130 in MTW then add UES and UWS (both free zones for 4*) adding $10 each bid. If you don't get a room in MTW and are willing to try other 4* zones before going to 3*, start a new round of bidding (don't add more zones to the MTW bid) for each four star zone @ $130 (for example, MTE 4*/$130, add UES and UWS at $140 and $150; CPS 4*/$130, etc.). If you've exhausted your 4* possibilities, start a new round for MTW 3*/$130. Be aware that there is only one free rebid for 3* (UWS), so you may have to get creative to strech your bids (for example, MTW 3*/$130, add UWS @ $140, new bid for MTE 3*/$130, add MTW @ $140, add UWS @ $150). Around the period you've indicated, the Waldorf has come up as low as $120, but availability has tightened up recently, so I think you should consider 3* as a viable alternative. Good Luck.
thereuare Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 Is this for the same stay as your PRICELINE NEW YORK CITY thread? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 I have merged your threads.... please keep all posts for this stay in the same thread, we'll ultmately move it to another area of the board if necessary once the hotel and service used are finalized. The above is for the Murray Hill East Suites? There is actually a $189/nite promotional rate available thru Expedia. It is always best to assume with the opaque providers that you are booking the lowest grade room. When searching for quad occupancy on Hotwire a studio still shows up, so this room can accomodate 4 people and i would assume that is the room you would get thru Hotwire. However, let's go back to your original post/question... was your $150/max if you needed to get two rooms? Would you consider going up to $300 (or more likely the low $200's) if you could get a room/suite to accomodate the four of you? You requested only MTW, but are other midtown areas acceptable as well (such as the hotel you mention above in Murray Hill). Is it four adults or 2 adults/2 children (if children, how old are they, or more importnantly, can they walk for 10 minutes without "how much further", "are we there", "where are we going" :) )I have some ideas which i think are better options, but will need to know the make-up of the four guests and the location restrictions in order to know what is viable. jrmcfadden Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 Sorry for the confusion on the posting. My kids are older, 15 and 17, so walking is no problem.I thought I preferred MTW because we have tix for a show on Friday nite, Time Square, etc. But, I'm liking the idea of one of the suite hotels...Murray Hill or Beekman both sounded pretty good. Seems like I should be able to get something that would accomodate the 4 of us, like a 1BR at Murray Hill for around $200.Thanks.
thereuare Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 You can get a 1BR suite at the BEEKMAN TOWER for $201/nite and (imo) it is a much better hotel. Subway is about a 7-8 minute walk which is why i asked about the kids. To get the above price use the link above (please) and you'll have to only search for two people.... but the 1BR suite has a Queen bed in the BR and a pull-out sofa in the LR... asssuming works for you. jrmcfadden Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 Here are a few more details Just to complete the picture and my thought processes. The party consists of me, my wife and my two kids, who are 15 and 17. This is a pre-cruise trip. We're leaving on a Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) for Bermuda on 7/10. NCL has a "deal" with the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. http://www.ncl.com/destinations/berm/vs.htm#. The "deal" for a quad room appears to be $209 per person for 2 nights, and an additional $79 per person for an additional night. If my math is correct, that's $288 per person for 3 nights, for a total of $1152 for all 4 of us for 3 nights. That does not seem like a deal to me.Again, as I started looking at this, I concluded I didn't necessarily need to be a) at the Sheaton, or :) in MTW. Seems like a suite in MTE or CPS would be much more comfortable and economical.Appreciate your help.
jrmcfadden Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 Tried to book the Beekman but got booted. :)

thereuare Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 For the same dates of 7/7-7/10?Yes, the same Beekman Tower link should still work and there does appear to be more availability for the above dates. If your friends are looking for other dates they can still use the above link but just search for their different dates. If we can be of more help just let us know.
