spotty Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Stayed here couple of weekends ago for $89 2 nights after accepting counter of $70 bid. This time was rejected yesterday at $60, bid $70 today and got counter of $91. Changed 2 nights to 1, bid $80 and was accepted. Added 2nd night at same price. Very nice hotel with good complimentary hot breakfast with omelet station with standard rate of $119. So do you get better deal bidding 1 night instead of 2?
thereuare Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success!PRICELINE's "suggestion" of $91 is what we refer to as a counter-offer, and it can usually be undercut by using re-bid zones (or waiting 24 hours and trying again), as explained in this thread: Priceline Suggests Price to Pay. Chances are that if you had bid both nites together at $80 you would have been accepted as well. (ie- you never bid more than $70 for both nites together)Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. mhildebrant Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 Hi there, I actually work for a hotel chain. Many hotels yield their rates and offer further discounted stays based on a 2+ night stay vs a 1 night stay. The reason is, hotels do not have to turn over the room again (less housekeeping costs) as it's easier and less costly to clean a "stayover" vs a "check-out." Also, many hotels will place restrictions on Friday night for a 2 night stay so that the hotels do not fill up on Friday night, sit empty on Saturday night, but perhaps could've sold the rooms to a 2 night stay vs a 1 night stay.Hope this helps!Matt
