Tech1 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 With the new current list of winning bids, and as a novice to PL and HW is it a good strategy to just match a previous bid win? I see people have won at the Barclay in MTE for Oct 5-8 for 220-230. The hotel's own site wants $400+. I was just thinking of bidding what has already won. That way I won't have to bother with all the extra zones, etc. What do you think? Does anyone else just do this?
AaronJB Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Bidding is really a case-by-case basis much of the time, as rates - especially in a major city like NYC - can vary quite significantly from day-to-day; what is required for a winning bid one day could definitely be different than what is required for a day later or a month later. Based on rates I'm seeing for these dates, unfortunately I think $230 may not be enough for a 4* in Midtown. What would be your desired budget per night, and which zones/star ratings are you interested in bidding for?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 As well, note that the date range of those who won at $220-$230 have longer stays then your date range. Most notably their dates include the full weekend, and given that weekend dates in NYC are typically less expensive then mid-week dates, that can bring down the average room rate and require a lower bid amount then your dates. This is in addition to the fact that each of those wins were received nearly a month ago, and rates may have (likely) changed since then.Is MTE the only zone you're willing to accept? Tech1 Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 I'm new to priceline and looking for a 4* in manhattan. Our travel friends are looking to stay in TS. Is this the highest bid zone as far as winning bids? I don't want to bid $250 in TS and then add another zone (say MTE) and wind up paying $250 for a that zone that I may have won for less $$. Whats the best zone order to use? I can talk to my friends and explain it better if I know.....Thanks!PS we will be there OCT 5,6,7 leaving on the 8th.
thereuare Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Please keep all posts for the same trip in the same thread.I'd start with this thread: Hotels Near Times SquareYou really don't need to stay directly in Times Square, and as per the link above, you'll likely find that you spend far less time in the immediate area then you think. With NYC zones so compact and close together, and mass transit/taxis relatively inexpensive and easily accessible, most midtown locations typically work well for the average user. With the above noted, Times Square is often, but not always, one of the most expensive zones. Are you willing to pay more to stay in Times Square vs. another nearby zone OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better hotel in any of your acceptable zones?Let us know the above above and we'll take it from there.
