kresi
hi,i want to bid on a hotel at the amsterdam airport, but i want to avoid the nh hotel.is there any way to do that?the cheapest hotel in that area that some people here won is the nh hotel, but it's a 4 star just like most of the other hotels.i need a room for 1 night (check-in is august 27, 2011).or should i just go with HOTWIRE? they have the hilton amsterdam airport for $111 right now.thanks Link to comment
Romelle
There isn't any way to avoid a particular hotel when bidding a PRICELINE zone. Even if you were to bid a lower star level, it is possible to get an upgrade.I haven't stayed at the Amsterdam NH, but have stayed with them in other cities. A little different than a more traditional hotel - sleek contemporary styling usually, but the functionality was there. The various possible hotels seem to be coming up fairly randomly too. Sometimes one can take a chance on the fact that there seems to be a streak of a certain one happening. Not in this case.HOTWIRE is the only way to gain some control of the situation. Not 100%, but very good odds.Romelle Link to comment
ahallbetterb
You can't avoid a certain hotel with PRICELINE bidding if the hotel is in that zone at or above the star level you are bidding. Why do you want to avoid the NH?Do you have to be in the airport zone? Train from central Amsterdam is fairly quick to the airport, only 15-20 minutes. Link to comment
kresi
I want to avoid the NH, because they charge $5 for the shuttle. And I just don't like that.Early flight the next morning and a lot of luggage, that's why I want to stay at the airport.Looks like I'll go with HOTWIRE and the $111 Hilton. Thanks Link to comment
hohogap
I've stayed at the Hilton @ Schipol and it's a great, close hotel for your needs. And that's a great price, too! The nH is listed on lastminutetravel.com for $138.21 for your night, so you've located a great deal! BTW - how did you confirm that Hotwire's opaque 4* hotel listed for $111 was the Hilton? ahallbetterb
If it were me, I'd bid much lower than $111 on PRICELINE. If you get the NH for, say, $80 (and people have gotten it for lower than that), isn't that plus $5 for the shuttle still better than $111 for the Hilton? Link to comment
kresi
it's just that i hate hotels that charge for the shuttle and i don't want to do any business with them. even if i end up paying more. but that's just me. Link to comment
kresi
according to the list here on betterbidding it should be the hilton. but i still haven't booked it (i'm flying stand-by and i need to see if there will be empty seats). i will let you know if the list is reliable. hohogap
Fantastic, thanks! Look forward to confirming that hotel as I'll be going through AMS in the fall sometime, and may need to look at a hotel for the same situation as you describe. Link to comment
