Crimedog0428 Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Greetings...my wife and I are looking for a 4* hotel in NYC for Oct.22 to Oct.29 and it is our first time visiting. From my research, we'd like to stay in the following areas in this order : MTE, TS, MTW, and CPS. Also, judging from Hotwire, we could get a 4* hotel in MTE for $258/night, so imagine that I would be able to get something a bit cheaper with PL. Anything would be better than other hotel sites where nothing is less than $300/night! So maximum looking to spend $230...could we please get your suggestions on bidding? I think I understand the whole zones etc., but just want to make sure. Thanks!!!
thereuare Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages and clicking this PRICELINE link... then reply to this thread indicating if zone or price is most important (ie- did you want to bid up to your limit in MTE before trying TS, then up to your limit in TS before trying MTW, etc, etc.. OR is your actual goal the least expensive 4* in any of the four acceptable zones)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Crimedog0428 Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 Oh I see...I'd like to bid up to my max. in MTE first before moving on to the next desired zone. Thanks again and we'll be sure to use the links provided by this site. Cheers!
thereuare Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. Crimedog0428 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 I just started the bid process to no avail (following the above recommended steps)...even though I only tried once so far, I'm getting a bit worried as I noticed that the equivalent Hotwire rate for the same time period/star level before was $258/night, but now it is $299/night. As a backup plan, I'd like your recommendation on bidding for a 4* still but finding the least expensive hotel in MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB instead of isolating to MTE like above. I'd like to still try for a max of $250/night, but would be willing to pay a bit more (maybe $275) to get a 4* then drop down to 3.5* at $250 for example. Otherwise, will have to split the bid...thanks for your help!!!

Crimedog0428 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 Hi Folks - Finally won my bid! Not sure if I was being impatient or not, but like I said getting a bit worried as thought prices were going up. Anyway, won the 4* Intercontinental Barclay for $285/night. For the last few days I was trying the last recommendation of bidding on MTW, MTE, ESB, TS, and CPS up to a max of $275, however, tonight thought I'd go back to the first recommendation of bidding on MTE only, and slowly increased my bid by $5 increments, and finally landed at $285. Hope that helps and thanks for the help. Personally, if I would've booked Hotwire 2 weeks ago which was ID'ed to be the Barclay in the first place at $258/night I would've been better off, but who knows right? Now that price on Hotwire is $303/night. Thanks again.
