newts Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Hi,I was wondering if you can suggest which areas are best to bid on and what techniques I should use for the following dates. I'd like to stick to resorts, 5 stars, or at least 4 star hotels. Budget under $150 would be great if possible.Oct 10 - 14, 2011 - Honolulu Preferred area is Waikiki Beach. Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Are you willing to pay more for a 5* vs. a Resort vs. a 4.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay? The Waikiki Beach is the most popular zone, but depending upon your needs/plans, City Central and/or Marina can work well too.Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click this PRICELINE link before replying.Thanks. newts Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Hi,I am willing to pay more for a five star. I'm open to the other areas as well. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I'm open to the other areas as well. What are your plans for this trip? Are you looking for a resort-type property so you can lounge around the hotel pool/beach and relax, or will you be touring the island, or just using the hotel as a place to sleep at the end of the day, etc, etc? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. newts Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 For Honolulu I plan to do a bit of lounging, but probably more touring the island, joining tours or walking around (as i don't plan on renting a car right now). I'm okay with taking the bus/taxis as I've heard its quite convenient
thereuare Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I would stick with the Waikiki Beach zone as that will at least ensure that you have stores, restaurants, etc. in the immediate area and you're within the heart of the area.... as well as provide you a nice hotel, hopefully also on the beach, to relax. Did you want to start bidding at the Resort level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. newts Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 Yes, I prefer the resort level hotels first if that is at all possible. Thanks!
newts Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Just tried and was unsuccessful (used the bonus $20 offer):4* Waikiki Beach Areastarted Waikiki beach $110 + $5 bonus = $120 added rebid zone $115 + $5 = $120 added rebid zone $120 + $5 = $125added rebid zone $125 + $5 = $130Am I doing it to maximize results or are my bids just too low?
thereuare Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Yes, I prefer the resort level hotels first...Just tried and was unsuccessful4* Waikiki Beach AreaYour 4* bidding before Resort is not consistent with your previous comments... are you now interested in the least expensive 4* or better for this stay OR are you looking to bid the Resort level first up to your maximum bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please note that you can still use your Bonus Cash along with the board's PRICELINE links as follows...1) click the PRICELINE link on the board2) go to the MY PROFILE >> MY REWARDS link at the top right of their home page3) use the bonus money link in the MY REWARDS section of your profile (not a link from an email) and bid as usualThanks. newts Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Ya, I think I'm just getting tired of how much time this pricelining is taking (since I have four hotel segments to book). This forum is great though and I am using the links to support each time. In any case, I think I should have clicked resort first in my bids/re-bids and then if I get rejected try again with the 4*.... is that correct? It seems like the only 4* reported was the Hyatt Regency (for Waikiki Beach) and I guess I was okay with that too.
thereuare Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 I think I should have clicked resort first in my bids/re-bids and then if I get rejected try again with the 4*.... is that correct?Correct... but when dropping from Resort to 4* you also want to close the browser and lower your bid price. However, keep in mind that when you choose a star rating it is the minimum you are willing to accept, so in theory when you have bid 4* up to $130 you have also already bid for a Resort up to that level as well. To continue...Using your THREE re-bid zones you can try:Select Resort...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4*...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150When bidding the above, keep in mind that HOTWIRE currently has a 4* hotel offered in the Waikiki Bech zone with:Near Beach, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundryfor $147 (your price may differ by a few dollars) which i'm assuming is the Marriott, if that is of any interest you can stop each of the bidding above at $145Any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding.Good luck and let us know how it goes. newts Posted September 11, 2011 Author Report Posted September 11, 2011 Ended up just booking Hotel Renew directly through the hotel. With great reviews at a price of $160 per night it seemed like a better deal then i was aiming for via priceline/hotwire. Thanks for all your help though!
