KdoubleT Posted August 20, 2011 Report Posted August 20, 2011 Hi Everyone! I'm looking to book a room in New York from 09/02/11 to 09/04/11.These are my requirements:- Areas: Times Square, Midtown West, Midtown East, Central Park South, Hell's Kitchen, Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building. (Listed in preferred order).- Stars: 3* to 4*.- Price: Below $250.Failed bids so far:- 3.5*. Times Square - Theatre District. $200.- 3.5*. Times Square - Theatre District, Hell's Kitchen. $210.- 3.5*. Times Square - Theatre District, Midtown West, Hell's Kitchen. $215.Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! :)
thereuare Posted August 21, 2011 Report Posted August 21, 2011 Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Are you willing to pay more to be in your first choice of zone vs. your second choice of zone, etc, etc OR is the goal the least expensive in any of the acceptable zones?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KdoubleT Posted August 21, 2011 Author Report Posted August 21, 2011 Ideally, it would be best to find a 3* to 4* hotel in Times Square for under $250. However, I feel that Labor Day weekend and the US Open will make that difficult. So, I guess the goal would be the least expensive hotel in any of the acceptable zones, but in the listed zone order. For instance, I'd like to find a hotel in Times Square first. If I can't find a hotel under $250, then I'll expand to Midtown West. If Midtown West has no options, then I'll expand to Midtown East, and so forth.Thank you for the help and I hope to hear back soon.
thereuare Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Ideally, it would be best to find a 3* to 4* hotel in Times Square for under $250... I guess the goal would be the least expensive hotel in any of the acceptable zones...This is contradictory... if theory a 3.5* hotel should be 'better' then a 3* hotel... so you're either looking for:1) the best hotel your $250 can buy or2) the least expensive 3* (or better should PRICELINE upgrade your 3* bid)Do you see the difference between the two above? (and i do think you have a chance at a 3.5* within your budget)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 If you don't think this strategy is inline with your preferences, then just post back and we'll revise, but the following is for the best (highest rated) hotel your $250 will buy:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones, at the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS, MTW, KdoubleT Posted August 23, 2011 Author Report Posted August 23, 2011 How did you determine which initial zones to bunch together?
thereuare Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 I started with your original zone preferences. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KdoubleT Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 I've followed your advice and have been rejected so far. I need more help please. Thank you!Failed bids so far:- 3*, 3.5*, 4*. $160, $165, $170, $175, $180, $185, $190, $195, $200, $205, $215, $225, $230, $235.
thereuare Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 You previously stated that you would bid up to $250... is $235 actually your maximum bid?Any thoughts regarding bidding high vs. including Downtown in your bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KdoubleT Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 I would like to stay in Times Square area, so I most likely will not include Downtown. Also, Priceline kept sending me a duplicate request message earlier, so I wasn't able to reach $250. However, I just re-bid and got rejected.Failed bids so far:- 3*, 3.5*, 4*. $160, $165, $170, $175, $180, $185, $190, $195, $200, $205, $215, $225, $230, $235, $240, $245, $248, $250.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 So have you bid up to $250 for a 3* property as well?If so, you can either wait it out and try again, lower your star rating further, or raise your maximum bid.Thoughts? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KdoubleT Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Yes, I've bid up to $250 for a 3* property as well. The dates I'm looking for are next next weekend. Do you think waiting it out will increase the number of available rooms?? I'm afraid that waiting it out will increase the price and decrease inventory. What would you do in my situation? Thanks for the advice.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Do you think waiting it out will increase the number of available rooms?? I'm afraid that waiting it out will increase the price and decrease inventory.Nobody can say if rates will come down... or continue even higher. It all depends upon expected hotel demand comes in relative to expectations. What would you do in my situation? Thanks for the advice. If it were me i would either stay in Hoboken-Jersey City at a 4* for less than $150/nite... upgrade your accommodations vs. what you can get in the city and with the $100/nite savings do something 'special' in the city i wouldn't normally have done (could be anything from a show, dinner you otherwise wouldn't have splurged on, nice bottle of win at dinner, etc, etc)... or if i had to stay in the city i would either stay downtown OR SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (staying midtown the first nite, which is less expensive then the second nite, where i would stay downtown). This last option depends how much you feel the need to stay midtown vs. downtown vs. how you feel about changing hotels midstay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how we can be of further help. KdoubleT Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 Last week, I bid up to $290 in TS, MTE, MTW, HK, and CPS and wasn't able to get accepted. I was going to give up because nothing seemed to be in my price range. However, I just noticed that some people were able to get a 3* room in Central Park South, so I decided to re-bid. SUCCESS!!Was able to book the 3* Holiday Inn Midtown New York in Central Park South for $190 from 09/02/11 to 09/04/11. (Someone got it for $165 and $210). Area isn't exactly where I wanted, but it's in a great price range, so I'm content.Thank you for all the help.
AaronJB Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Nice deal for this Holiday Inn property, and glad you are satisfied with the location and overall result.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
KdoubleT Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Stayed in a two double bed room at Holiday Inn Midtown. I have to say that I was kinda disappointed with this hotel. Most of the decor looked dated and in dire need of updates. The first room they gave me had FLIES in the room! Turn off! Luckily, I was able to switch rooms. The room size was decent, but the bathroom was a bit small and dirty.
thereuare Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Glad to see you were easily able to change rooms, but sorry this stay wasn't as good as the others on your trip.I'm sure you didn't let it spoil your good time and still enjoyed NYC!
