sfgirl310 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 So, I've been bidding up to $175 for a 3.5* and 4* through priceline. I started at $125 and went up to $175 by adding the other zones that only offered 3 and below. I continue to be denied. Hotwire is offering 4* USE at $178/night and 4.5* USE at $185/night. Based on the recent posts, I'm guessing that the 4.5 star is the Inter-Continental. My max is $200/night. In this situation, would hotwire be best? Is it highly unlikely priceline would go down?
thereuare Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is no telling if the rates will come down, or continue even higher, between now and your stay... but given you were willing to bid up to $200 i'm assuming rates are generally higher then usual for these dates? If you like the Inter-Continental better then the other 4* hotels in the zone then i would purchase it thru HOTWIRE... if it's a least favorite 4* hotel in the zone, or you have no preference, then i would continue bidding higher ensuring that you stop before exceeding the cost of the HOTWIRE property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Gallus50 Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 At times of high demand, sometimes lastminutetravel.com can beat HW and PL on price. LMT has several 3.5* opaque hotels which turn out to be the Sir Francis Drake ($151) and the Warwick ($168). Another choice is the Diva ($123), which I would say is more of a 3*. They also have a well priced 4,5* ($161), but it is on request. You can easily ID using BEAV's method in the Run of House section on the board. I would investigate this and save some $$$. The Drake is probably as nice as a 4* and well located right on Union Square.
sfgirl310 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Thank you so much for this. I was able to book the Hotel Griffon for $112/night in the financial district, which was actually my first choice zone. Nothing in priceline or hotwire compared to this rate. Thanks again!

Gallus50 Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 sfgirl - Thanks for letting us know how this turned out. I also appreciate that you took my advice and ran with it. When you post on a forum like this, people often ask for help, then ignore your suggestions. Or they expect others to do their homework for them. The only real reward we get is the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone. So it's nice to hear you got a good deal and you are happy. Have a nice trip!
