sporatictraveler Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hello, Just discovered this site, GREAT resource. Thanks very much.I hoped I might be able to get some help with a bidding strategy for a trip this fall, as I've never been to Boston. Will be using priceline and, ideally, looking to stay in the Cambridge area - but if not there, perhaps Copley Square or Quincy Market. Wife prefers 4* Is it too early to bid on such a trip? Or the wrong season to find deals?Any help would be appreciated.
thereuare Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is your maximum bid for this stay? Did you want to bid up to your maximum for just the Cambridge zone before including Copley and/or Quincy Market... OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better in any of these zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click this PRICELINE link before replying. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sporatictraveler Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks for the assistance! Our maximum bid would be $140 and we'd like to bid up to that in Cambridge before we'd add Copley (I think we've decided to stick to these two areas).
thereuare Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 At the 4* level in Boston you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Cambridge...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Cambridge and re-bid zone5...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask (especially regarding re-bidding and confirming your re-bid zones)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. sporatictraveler Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 Excellent - thanks very much!I haven't tried using the safe re-bid strategy before, but have read up on it here and belive I understand how it works (again, great resource!).Just to confirm, If I'm not mistaken it looks like the five re-bid zones for 4* in Boston are:- Brighton- Fenway- Medford- North Cambridge- South BostonLet me know if any of those aren't safe re-bid zones for 4*Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct... but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. sporatictraveler Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 Used the PRICELINE links and strategy you suggested, and while I had to go above my original price limit up to $160, was ultimately successful. Will report the results in a separate post. Many thanks for the assistance!
