Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking for a 4* + (name brand) hotel for my mother and I when we visit from 16th - 21st December 2011 (peak time I know!).

My budget is $260 a night but would be willing to go up for a 5* - which is definitely my preference.

I saw the Waldorf on earlier forums and am really interested in staying there - does that ever come up anymore of Hotwire or priceline?

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding when I should book (or should I wait) or the Waldorf specifically?

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

This is definitely a very busy time, although generally not QUITE as bad as the first couple of weeks of the month. By the middle of the month, rates are still high, although not quite so bad.

There is no way to ensure a particular property, and the Waldorf has not been seen as a win in quite some time (I believe it was previously reported on HOTWIRE, but has not been reported in years.)

Which zones would you be interested in staying within? Additionally, is your desired budget $260 "all in" (with taxes/fees) or $260 + taxes/fees?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

$260 all in preferably - but if 4.5* or 5* could stretch to $300 max.

I'd like to be near the centre of things, so good lcoation for subway (especially) and fairly nearby tourist attractions and shopping.

I've been quoted $246 (ave per night - as it is a 5 night deal) for the Hyatt so looking to spend less than 260 if staying there - or any other comparables.

Thanks for getting back to me.

PRICELINE no longer offers 5* bidding in NYC.

I don't think your budget is going to be much of an issue, but you'll need to decide if you're willing to accept any 4* hotel in the zone(s) you select OR if you want to pay a little more to take an educated guess as to the property you'll likely receive.

The best bang for the buck currently on HOTWIRE appears to be the W New York for $207/nite, but i'm also seeing what i'm guessing to to be the Hotel Indigo for $240/nite should that be of interest.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Please click each of these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links before replying.

Thanks.

Which W hotel would that be? (I've heard some are better than others!)

As it is a somewhat special occasion I'd rather spend the top of my budget and have a bit more of an idea of what I'm likely get.

Thank you

It's this one, The W New York, which is the first location in the chain.

The Sunday-Tuesday period is also quite a bit cheaper than the Friday-Sunday period, so if you are willing to switch properties, you could do something like the 5* Hotel Gansevoort Park Avenue for $256 (it is $418 for the first two nights of your stay) on Orbitz for 18th-21st, plus Orbitz coupon code ORBITZ5 takes 5% off.

There's also what appears to be the Grand Hyatt or Inter-Continental Barclay - which would not be too terribly far - for $218 for the first couple of nights (16th-18th).

That would be an average of about $235 per night, but the last three nights would be in a 5*.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Orbitz links to start your purchases and searches.
