I have read the forum and if I read correctly, to get the Sheraton you need to bid the Waikiki beach area, just the resorts. There are four choices in this sector, so theoretically you have a one in four chance. We are going September 23-30. We have bid twice: the first at $105 and the second at $115, with both rejected. I think we will stay in this range as we still have some time. We are newbies so does this sound like a good strategy?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? (see: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) When bidding RESORT in this region you have FOUR re-bid zones (you're strongly encouraged to confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding)

Feel free to ask any questions you have and keep us updated on your bidding.

Good luck.

I have read the re-bidding instructions but I guess I am not sure what would be an appropriate re-bid to accomplish booking at the Sheraton. Would I be able to add 5 stars and increase my bid. Or would I have to add a different zone, but we know we definitely want the Waikiki beach area? I am a little confused.

.... I am not sure what would be an appropriate re-bid to accomplish booking at the Sheraton.
Regardless if you use re-bidding techniques or not, you can't ensure that you will get the Sheraton, you must be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose.
I am a little confused.
Let's break it down...

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Waikiki' and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

All right.

We bid 120 to 125 for a week. All rejected.

Bid 130 rejected.

Bid 135 accepted.

We got the Marriott Resort. Not my first choice. :) I did want the Sheraton but hey I am going to Oahu!

One interesting thing. When we went on the Sheraton web site to check availability, they said no rooms were available for our dates, which is strange.

We only did four nights and chose not to add on. Going to try again or mayb try a different part like Turtle Bay.

I will post when we do.

Congratulations on your success!

I've edited your topic title to reflect the four nites you purchased were the first 4 nites of your trip, 9/23-9/27, can you confirm that this is correct?

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.

That is correct, we have the 4 nites of our stay purchased (9/23-9/27) covered. We have not made arrangements for the remaining 3 days as of yet. We will post our results when we make them. Thanks.

I stayed at this property in April. You will love it. I threw a $20 on the counter at check and got a room with an ocean view. Be sure to hit Lulu's the restaurant on the next block. Everything is within walking distance.

Started bidding on the last nights of our September stay (September 28-30). We are using the same strategy and have been bidding for about a week. Bid first at Waikiki Beach zone using only 4 star resorts. Then rebid using the airport zone.

We have consistently bid 120-135 for about a week with all rejected :) . We leave in less than two weeks so we are considering raising our bid to 140-145. looks like room inventory might be a little tight.

As this thread reflects the results for the first 4 nites of your stay, please start a NEW TOPIC for the additional nites.

Also, as the stay above is for 4 nites, 9/23-9/27, wouldn't you need the balance to be 9/27-9/30 (or have you already made other plans for the nite of 9/27??)
