Matt1234 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 I turned to Priceline after having no luck on Hotwire or LMT. Started at $160 and was accepted on my first offer. I'm happy with the hotel, but I wish I had started with a lower starting bid and utilized my free re-bids.How do you think I did? Could I have gotten a 4* for a similar price? Could I have gotten a 3.5* for much less money?
Gallus50 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Matt - There is not a lot of availability for your dates so it may be that you did just fine. There is a possibility that you overbid, so it's nice to do your homework and feel confident. How to do your homework? Well, you can check rack rates and aim for approximately $50 less, going up as necessary. Check HW and try to aim for 20-35% lower than their prices. Or you can start low, even unfeasibly low, and utilize rebids all the way up to your maximum. SF has a gazillion rebids. With all the configurations you can do, you can actually probably bid up to 30/40/50 times in one session. I'm not kidding. So while you may have overbid, you may have just perfectly hit the mark, due to high prices and low availability. It could be that you left a small amount on the table, but I'm fairly certain you got some kind of a deal. Does that help?
AaronJB Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Not a bad deal for this property during a busier period; Expedia is showing no availability for the full period, with each level of room having one or more days unavailable during the period.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
