pexaustin Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 I've bid as high as $140 for 4* in mid town with no luck. June 22 is a Wednesday, anyone know if there's something going on in NYC during that time or would I bet better trying for June 23-24 and split out June 22?
thereuare Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! What are the actual dates of your stay... your post seems to indicate 6/22-6/25 but your thread title suggests 6/25-6/28.What makes you think that 6/22 is the difficult date? pexaustin Posted June 5, 2005 Author Report Posted June 5, 2005 Sorry, actual dates are ariving on Wed June 22 for 3 nights. Coming into JFK on flight from London that arrives at 11:00 p.m. and leave on flight from LGA around 5:00 p.m. on June 25. So, only have 2 full days in NYC and want to stay in Midtown, preferably MTW near Times Square. In past have gotten 4* in midtown for around $100/night but have gone up to $140 with no luck. Wasn't sure if weekdays are more expensive or weekends. Coming in on Wednesday is right in middle of business week. Also wasn't sure if there's something big going on in NYC. Only bid up to $120 in MTE but $140 in MTW and CPS for 4*'s. Used to be a 4* in MTE way over by UN and didn't want to get that. Looks like all 4*'s in MTE are more centrally located now. Am I just aiming too low?
thereuare Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 Rates are typically higher in NYC during the week than on weekends. Bids should be based upon current rates for your dates, which in your case are high. What is your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. pexaustin Posted June 5, 2005 Author Report Posted June 5, 2005 I'm willing to go to $150-160 and have a little flexibility on the dates, but not much.
thereuare Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 What is the date flexibility you have... as recent doesn't suggest your chances are good within your stated budget. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pexaustin Posted June 5, 2005 Author Report Posted June 5, 2005 We could come in a day earlier or later. That's about it.
pexaustin Posted June 18, 2005 Author Report Posted June 18, 2005 I have been trying to get a 3 or 4 star hotel room in midtown for a couple weeks now. Have bid up to $185 per night and all were rejected. We could also arrive on 6/24 (a Friday) instead of 6/22 but would need to stay for 4 nights in that event. Do you have any suggestions? I really don't want to pay over $150. Any ideas on what or how to bid?
thereuare Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Is SPLITTING THE BID an option? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pexaustin Posted June 19, 2005 Author Report Posted June 19, 2005 We can split the bid. In fact, I was thinking of bidding for a hotel for 6/22 at JFK since we come in so late and then trying for a hotel in Manhattan for 6/23-24. However, I've gone as high as $175 for Midtown for 6/23-24 with no luck a couple days ago. Maybe a fallback would be to stay near Laguardia since we fly out of LGA on 6/25. Any ideas you have would be appreciated. We're on a cruise ship in the UK now that ends on Tuesday morning, and I've got no hotel reservations for London or NYC, although I'm not too worried about London. Usually London is a lot more expensive, but NYC is much higher right now.
thereuare Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I think the later stay is going to be more of a possibilty... but both will be tough. What is your real maximum bid?You state you don't want to pay more than $150 yet you've already bid up to $185.... which still wasn't enough. Our strategies are designed to try lower amounts first and gradually increase the bids, and you're running out of time so i wouldn't recommend trying bids that are unrealistic.
