Hi, I am new to the board , and I am a PRICELINE / HOTWIRE rookie. I have used both with ok results. I always have a feeling I could've done better, maybe you guys are just what I need to do so! Ok. My wife and I are going to NYC in Sept for a 1hour doctor appointment. I want to mix this in with a pleasure/sightseeing trip as well. The doctors office is near 36th and Park ave. We would like to find a hotel near there.

We arriving on Amtrak at Penn Stn. Sun. 9/25/2011 at 6:45 pm. We will be flying out of LGA Tues. afternoon 9/27/2011. We are looking for a 4* in the TS, ESB, or MTE in that order from 9/25/11 -9/27/11. I started bidding at $175 - $202. last night using the rebiddiding technique by keeping the 4* and using diff. areas that did not contain 4*s. At $202. it pushed the total w taxes up to near $500. which is about $100 more than I want to pay. These bids were not accepted. Hopefully you guys can help me get in there. I would also consider MTW. The Madison Sq. Area if anyone has experience with the 3 1/2* there. I would like to try to stay close to ( within a 20/30 block walking distance) from the doctors office. I think I covered it all and any help will be appreciatted. Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

Unfortunately rates are high for these dates and a 4* in these zones is currently out of your budget.

You might be able to get a 3.5* in your range (although hardly a 'sure thing' as the price would still be a bit of a stretch). HOTWIRE does have what i'm guessing to be the 3* rated Murray Hilll East Suites for $193/nite... it's far from a 4* hotel (and perhaps close to 2.5*), but it is clean, large and close to the doctor's office.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the welcome, help, support and legwork you do for us. After reading your post, I come to the conclusion that budgets are meant to be broken. Given my first criteria and staying with 4*s in the TS, ESB, and MTE, what do you suggest a starting bid to be? Do you think the price could go down? I would hope that the hotel I get has a good view and not staring into a brick wall. I have stayed at the Marriott Marquis in the past and really loved being in the heart of TS. That trip was bought at a package deal through PL w a timesview upgrade back in March for around $1400 w round trip air from DFW. I would like to go no higher than $240. b4 taxes on a 4*. If you don't think that is possible, I am open to suggestions. I also will check out HWs $193. you mentioned in the meantime.

Additionally, the Murray Hill Suites property would have a kitchen area (groceries, leftovers) and is more apartment-like (I believe it was formerly an apartment building.)

Please provide the amenity icons showing with each listing (and star rating) and we would be happy to try to ID.

Thanks for the useful info. I just booked the 3*Murray Hill East Suites in the ESB area on HW for $193 = $467. w taxes for 9/25- 9/27/11. Any suggestions on one way airfare from LGA to DFW where I can pick my flight Priceline has good prices right now at $150. per person for the time slots that fit my needs. Is this the best I'll get and should just take it? Thank for ID'ing the Murray Suites for me. It helped make my choice :)

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are pleased with the results.

Can you confirm that the amenities shown before your purchase were Suite, Fitness, Kitchenette, Laundry... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

PRICELINE does't offering 'bidding on airfare' for one way flights, so you'll have to take the best you can get thru 'retail' means.

Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.

Enjoy your stay.
