Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC (MTE) Waldorf Astoria

Could someone here advise my fiance and me on a bidding strategy for NYC? We would like to spend four nights in a three to five star hotel. We can travel any time between July 2 and 16. In order of preference, we're interested in Midtown West, Midtown East, or Midtown South.

I've been trying on Priceline for various four day increments (7/2-6, 7/5-9, 7/6-10, 7/7-11, etc.) without any luck. My maximum bid so far has been $150.

This is the first time I've tried this, so I may be making some very obvious mistake. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I've been waiting to see if I could get the hotel reservations before getting the airline tickets. We're pretty flexible.

Thank you!!! :-)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The beginning of July has so far been tough for a lot of folks, although hotel-direct rates are not very high... i suspct (read: hope) rates will loosen up a bit in the next 2 weeks or so.

When was the last time you bid and have you gone as low as 3 stars? (i would't just yet) Are you familiar with RE-BIDDING? (you have 2 re-bids at the 4* level)

Let us know the answers to the above and we'll suggest a strategy on how to proceed.

Thank you, Thereuare!

Yes, I did try going down to a 3*, but that didn't get accepted either. What I did was start out asking for a 5* hotel. That wasn't accepted. So, then I asked for 4* (the page kept both 4 AND 5 checked). That wasn't accepted either. Then I asked for 3*. Again no joy. I've tried the request with 3, 4 and 5* and all the areas (MTW, MTE, MTS) checked. Is that what you mean by a re-bid? (Also, what is a free re-bid? I understand that you can't bid again up to 72 hours after a reject but, at some point do they start to charge your card for attempting to bid?)

From your message I take it that the hotels may release some more rooms to the discounters as we get closer to the dates?

Reading through some of the message history here and noticed someone suggested breaking up a trip to spend part in one hotel and part in another. We wouldn't have a problem with that. Which is more in demand in NYC... weeknights for business travelers, or weekends for tourists? Are there any nights that are especially hard to get in NYC?

Again, thank you for your advice! It's really nice having someone to ask about this stuff. :-)
