chiyang Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 I am going to a conference held in Westin hotel in Alexandria old town. However, the bidding zone for Alexandria East is too wide. Since I will not have a car, transportation will be a problem if I get a hotel in the west or south of this bidding zone; so I decided to bid in crystal city which is close to old town and transportation will not be a problem. I have had several attempts and the price has gone up to $100, but all rejected. Any strategies that could help? or what price will be considered reasonable with the travelling dates? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 The 3.5* HOTWIRE listing is a possible match for the sheraton. The 3* has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'm seeing a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating, so this mystery listing does at least get excellent reviews. Rates are unfortunately on the high side for these dates - what would be your desired max budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
chiyang Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 I can go up to 140 for 4*, then 120 for 3.5*, then 100 for 3*. Thank you!
AaronJB Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I can go up to 140 for 4*, then 120 for 3.5*, then 100 for 3*. Thank you!Would you prefer pushing towards the higher end of your budget for a 4*, or going for the least expensive 3*? If you were to bid, which zones would be acceptable? In terms of HOTWIRE, are there are other listings of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

chiyang Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Actually, I don't need a 4* hotel, but prefer 3.5* and can go along with 3*. so I would say $120-$140 for a 3.5* and up would be highly satisfied, and $120 for a 3* would be acceptable. I have been bidding for 3* and up in crystal city for up to $100, but all rejected.I also tried to add 3.5* ↑ in Alexandria East-old town area for up to $100, still failed. I am afraid to go lower to 3* in Alexandria old town bidding zone, because this zone is too big and the chance of getting a hotel in the west side or south side of this zone will be greater, then transportation will become a real problem since I don't have a car. I guess staying in the crystal city bidding zone will be safer for me. In terms of Hotwire listing, the 2 I provided are the only 2 in crystal city area. There are others in Alexandria East-old town area, but still the transportation will be a problem if the names of these mysterious hotel cannot be revealed.I understand this is a really inconvenient situation; but have to go to that conference, and the budget is low. :) Thank you for the help, appreciated!
thereuare Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 I have been bidding for 3* and up in crystal city for up to $100, but all rejected.I also tried to add 3.5* in Alexandria East-old town area for up to $100, still failed. So did you want to bid for a 3.5* up to $140 in either the Crystal City and Alexandria East-Old Town up to $140, then if that is rejected bid for a 3* in only the Crystal City zone. Is this correct? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If the above is rejected HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the Alexandria zone for $145 you may want to consider before lowering your star rating to 3*, but we can cross that bridge if/when necessary. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. chiyang Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 thereuare, Thank you for the strategy. I just want to double check the 4 rebid zones for 3.5* are DC Northeast, Georgetown North, Mount Vernon, VA, and Silver Spring, MD.
thereuare Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Yes, those are correct, but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. chiyang Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 Thank you for your help; but all bidding following the suggestion were all rejected. I ended up buying a room at Holiday inn at Eisenhower ave. directly from the official website with 138.00 per night. The rate may seem higher with its star rating; but it's close to where my conference at and price are relatively affordable.
thereuare Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Sorry to hear your bids were rejected and you had to book direct. If you didn't, in the future please check our support page where we have links to most of the major hotel chains and online booking channels, including the Holiday Inn.Enjoy your stay and conference.
