Hi there,

I am looking for a bidding strategy:

3.5* and up

MTE, MTW, ESB, Central South

$150 max

MTW would be last option

August 26 - 28th - 2 nights

$150 max

I recently won a priceline bid in the financial district for the night before - nice hotel, wrong location (priceline groups soho and financial district togethor - it's annoying).

Please help!

Thanks.

Did you want to bid MTE, ESB, CPS up to your limit before adding MTW or is price ultimately the deciding factor and the least expensive in any of these zones is your ultimate goal?

Is there a reason your avoiding MSG and/or TS? Also nite that at the 3.5* level some MTE properties can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, and in the CPS is the Hudson Hotel which has extremely small rooms... would both of these be acceptable?

No - super small rooms are not what we want. Being close to the subway would be great. MDG and TS can be super touristy. Trying to refrain from that - but price and location are top factors (not super south - isolated). MTW is fine. Please advise. Thanks.

Do not want the Hudson -

Want to be close to subway -

150 is our ceiling right now -

If some 3.5* MTE are far from subway - I want to avoid that

Regional preference is possible

Central South

MTE (not far from subway)

MTW

Will look into other regions if needed

Sorry I understand what you are saying. Is there any way that a strategy can build being near a subway. i.e. certain start hotels in MTE are far away from the subway.?

Otherwise I can open up regions to get a better price. I saw someone got the W at $150 - is this far from the subway?

Thanks again.

At the 4* leavel all the 'known' hotels are fairly close to the subway, but at 3.5* and under you begin to have a few hotels in the MTE zone which are up to a 15 minute walk to the subway. There is no way to bid on only part of the zone, for any zone you include in your bidding, you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose.

The W New York is a 4* hotel in the MTE zone, and as per above, is close to the subway... you'll need to change your bidding parameters to 4* instead of 3.5* if you're going to bid the MTE zone (and a 4* will most likely be beyond your $150 budget)

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks so much. I appreciate your advice. How about I start with 4* MTE, MTW, CS, TS first. cap $160. If nothing, I'll downgrade to 3.5* and take out MTE? Any advice on strategy. Tried again today - no luck! Thanks - your site is very helpful.

Also is Queensborough Bridge at 4* non-existent and therefore a freebie???

Did you also want to include ESB in your bidding as many users find this zone to be convenient and is often included with the previous four?

At 3.5* did you also want to exclude the CPS zone? (as it contains the previously mentioned, small roomed, Hudson Hotel). Also, any thoughts of adding MSG at the 3.5* level?

Which zones and star rating did you choose and how high did you bid?

Yes, Queensboro Bridge is one of your re-bid zones, but at the 4* level you actually have FIVE re-bid zones, are you able to identify them all using the technique described at Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? Feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your FOUR re-bid zones.

I think they are Long Island and Queensborough - any others for 4*?

That's 2 out of 5, but let's try and break it down further so you can get them all...

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City' and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

Thanks I figured it out. However, not getting anything.

If my max is 150-160 before tax. Preference MTE, MTW, Central South, TS(last option) starting with 4 * and then 3.5* (take out MTE to avoid being far from subway and taking out CS, to avoid Hudson). What is my best bidding strategy, knowing the re-bidding zones? Help please. Will try one more time.

Yes, you have your re-bid zones at the 4* level correct, but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed... but also note that your re-bid zones are different when bidding 3.5*... you have only FOUR re-bid zones when bidding 3.5* in this area.

So have you already bid up to $160 for a 4* property? Have you done any bidding at the 3.5* level? Current rates are substantially above these levels.

Have you been to NYC before? It looks like you can probably get a 4* hotel in Jersey City (NJ) for under $150/nite and have easy access to Manhattan via PATH train. You do lose a lot of the 'buzz' of the city, but you'll get the 'nice' hotel you were originally seeking and at nearly half the price of a NYC property.

My bids have been lower as PRICELINE has had $130-150 in MTE and MTW during the same times...so just getting a little frustrated.

Rates are date specific, were the wins you're referencing for the same exact check-in and check-out dates as your stay?

I may have been searching for quad occupancy previously as rates don't seem that bad at the moment, but i'm still not clear... what star rating did you previously choose and what was your maximum bid at that star rating?

Yes for the same dates. Even got a priceline alert that people have gotten it as low as $135.

I have bidded up to $165 for a 4*

MTE, MTW, Central South, ESB, TS and added pretty much everything I could for re-bids.

If you could break down an appropriate strategy - that would be great - what increments etc. I've tried for several days. MTE and MTW appear to be getting reasonable bid successes for others. I do not want financial district. Open to any suggestions.

Again - Aug 26-28 for 2 people.

Thanks.

I ended up getting the Andaz for $150 (last year) on priceline. thank you.

For the other nights I had to use last minute travel to get a better rate in an area of preference.
