mazzy190 Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Hi. First of all I want to say thanks for this site. It has been really helpful in my vacation planning and I will certainly recommend it to my friends. I am hoping that someone can offer me some help or advice. I have been trying to book a hotel room in Savannah, GA through Priceline and I have been striking out miserably so far. I've done a fair amount of research (or I thought I had) and I felt pretty confident that I would be able to get something decent for $80 or less in the Downtown Historic/Riverfront area, but it looks like that might not be so easy. My travel dates are 9/19/2011 through 9/25/2011. That is not negotiable. I am only interested in staying in the historic/riverfront area. Of course, I started bidding at 4 stars, then 3.5, then 3. I haven't gone below 3 stars yet. I've bid about 20 times in the past few days. The majority of those bids were today since I had just learned about the 'rebidding loophole'. My highest bid at lowest star level so far has been $87 for a 3 star or better hotel. No luck. I guess the question is, shall I keep up with the same strategy of bidding $90 or less, starting at 4 stars and not going below 3 for the next few days and hope to get lucky, or am I better off lowering my standards, and my star level in hopes that I am able to get anything at all? My fear is that the longer I play around with trying to get a better room for less, my options will get smaller and more expensive. Do I have a worse chance of getting a good deal as it gets closer to my travel dates? I know that no one has a concrete answer to this question, and it's all speculation, but maybe someone's past experience can help me. I hope I'm posting this question in the right place. I'm pretty new here. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I sincerely appreciate any help I can get.
AaronJB Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Savannah unfortunately can be expensive at times - the city appears to be a case of supply/demand - it's more expensive in prime seasons and if there's anything going on, it gets expensive quickly. What would be your desired budget per night? I'm guessing you're likely not far from a 3* win, as HOTWIRE is showing a 3* in the Downtown-Historic District (which offers breakfast) for $97.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mazzy190 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Report Posted August 19, 2011 Hi. I just wanted to say thanks for the reply and give a quick update. I decided to split my 6 nights up and try a few different options on Priceline to see what might happen. Several attempts later, I ended up taking a regular (non bidding) Priceline deal. I chose the Four Points by Sheraton Historic Savannah for $79.00 a night for September 19-22. After lots of looking around, this really seemed like the best I could get, even after bidding on Priceline for what I thought was a pretty comparable situation. So, I am still looking for something for the last 3 nights of my vacation, Sept. 22-25, that is a weekend, which is proving to be more of a challenge if I want a great deal. I am entertaining other options like Hilton Head and Charleston, SC now. I will post when I am successful with finding something. If anyone has ideas, please share. Thanks!
