kagedmaniak Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 So I wanted to get 1 room [pref. 2beds, but I understand that I can't guarantee this] in the LAX area for at most $100 a night w/ taxes [4 stars, if possible]. Staying 10/14-10/19 - going to book another hotel in Orange area for 10/19-10/23. A 3 star hotel would work too, as long as its a 'nice' 3 star [Tripadvisor 4 star rating, etc] - but I can't guarantee anything w/ bidding so I decided to just do 4.I just tried a few areas in LA [West Hollywood, Downtown LA, LAX] for up to $88 a night, and no luck. I started somewhere around $70 and added a zone each time [why not try low :)]To get something near my price range, hopefully under considering I'll have to do something for parking, would I need to wait closer to my dates? Or could I get lucky now?Anyways, off to try again tomorrow or the weekend. Thanks!(and yep, I did use the ref. PRICELINE links!)
AaronJB Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, in terms of free parking, there is no way to look for that via either discount service. In terms of two beds, are you a party of 1/2 or a party of 3 or more? If you are two people and are looking for two beds, you could try using HOTWIRE and indicating two adults and two children, whether or not there are two children in the party. Indicating four people should ensure enough bedding for the entire party. I wouldn't wait until right before the dates; if you want, you can choose a ceiling under your budget max per night and persistently bid up to that ceiling every 3-5 days. If a few weeks go by (say around 9/1), then you can push the ceiling higher.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I'll also add that by using HOTWIRE you can also try to target some of the 'nicer' hotels at a given area by using the percent recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests and/or the Tripadvisor information shown. While HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, a 3.5* HOTWIRE may be less expensive then a 4* PRICELINE, and using the review information provided you may be able to ensure a 'good' one.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if/how we can be of further help along the way. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your bidding, searches and travel purchases.Good luck. kagedmaniak Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 Thanks for the help. From my understanding, I was going to try either a 4* hotel with Priceline, or something around a 3.5* with Hotwire so I can get a "good/nice" 3* hotel. And yep - 2 people but need 2 beds, so I'll give the 2 adults 2 children on Hotwire a go and see what I can find.
kagedmaniak Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 Well, I found a 3* in Redondo Beach - Hermosa Beach area hotel on Hotwire - 83/night w/ fitness/pool/business center. Looks to me like the Best Western + Sunrise? This is actually a hotel I was originally looking at, if it is indeed this same one - but I could've sworn they had cont. breakfast - maybe it isn't showing on hotwire?
AaronJB Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 This would be a possible match for the BW Sunrise. If the hotel offers breakfast, it is not showing on HOTWIRE. HOTWIRE listings usually do not show all amenities in an attempt to keep the service opaque.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kagedmaniak Posted August 12, 2011 Author Report Posted August 12, 2011 Well I just did the Redondo Beach one - 10/14-10/20 for $83 a night. I called them up after [did 2 adults 2 children] and they gave me a room with 1 queen and sofa bed. I asked if it was possible to change to a 2 queen room and they said they cannot change anything and I would have to deal with hotwire, and then pretty much hung up - seemed very rude honestly. All the reviews for this hotel have great customer service reviews. Maybe I could have better luck w/ a different front desk person?DetailsRedondo Beach - Fitness Center, Pool, businessHotel is the BEST WESTERN PLUS Redondo Beach Inn -- note, not the sunrise one.
thereuare Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Rooms with 2 beds at this property cost more than rooms with only one bed, so while you may have luck with another desk agent, getting a room with 2 beds here may be a bit more difficult then at properties which charge the same for both room types.Your best chance will likely be at check-in, and if turned down you can try offering to pay for an upgrade. The price differene between the two rooms is $13/nite, so that is what i would expect/offer to pay if the additional expense is worth it to you and helping us udpate the Hotwire Hotel List with the new amenity set for this property.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
