Schnooks Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 I saw it last night, but today there is no 3.5 star Downtown East... never used it before.. does it change throughout the day? Thanks

Schnooks Posted August 7, 2011 Author Report Posted August 7, 2011 Thanks for the reply.. read my message. We are staying in Toronto Aug. 13 and 14 nights.. wanted to stay nearest to Danforth area as we could. Am considering a B&B also.. but the budget is really stretched.I was wondering if we got a room at the Chelsea and we have our 6 year old, we're not guaranteed getting 2 beds, correct? Guess we can bring a blow up. Will keep checking, but need to decide. Thanks so much.
thereuare Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 I was wondering if we got a room at the Chelsea and we have our 6 year old, we're not guaranteed getting 2 beds, correct? If you include 2adults/1child in your search your assured sleeping accommodations for everyone included in your search. While this often means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc.Am considering a B&B also.. but the budget is really stretched.Let us know once you decide how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to advise further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Schnooks Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 I'm a newbie..I looked at the history of bids won and saw that the Chelsea went for $120 just recently. After trying $110, priceline asked me to raise it $24.. wondering if I should try again tomorrow.. but maybe not much luck at this late date and such a busy time. Thanks
harmony168 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 If you look at the hotel list for Canada, the Delta Chelsea is only 3.5*, i think you're overbidding. I've stayed there before without priceline and had to pay only about 140 plus tax, so the amount they're asking you to bid is too high in my opinion. I usually bid about 80-100 max for 4* hotels, even at peak times i have not had to bid more. I would say bid about 80 or so and keep trying, if not try again tomorrow. I've been trying to find a hotel in Toronto for this saturday and sunday and i'm having no luck either, i think today is just not a good day.Hope this helps.
Romelle Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I'm a newbie..I looked at the history of bids won and saw that the Chelsea went for $120 just recently. After trying $110, priceline asked me to raise it $24.. wondering if I should try again tomorrow.. but maybe not much luck at this late date and such a busy time.ThanksWhen you get a "counter offer" like that, it tells you there really is a hotel available someplace between $110 and $134. People have been successful with only an additional dollar or two. Usually it takes about 1/2 way up, or about $122. You do know you have to be prepared to accept ANY 4* hotel within the zones you are bidding? The whole shaded area on the zone map, for each one you are bidding. There are lots of free-rebid areas for Toronto. You should be able to sneak up on the "right" price, without overbidding. Check the FAQ area if you are not familiar with free-rebidding. And post back if it still doesn't make sense. An odd concept. Lots of people take a little while to wrap their mind around it.Romelle
Schnooks Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 I actually initially started out at 70 and then my husband tried in the 80's with no luck. I may end up using credit card rewards to just book it at $145 as we are needing 5 nights total hotel stays on our trip on a pastor's salary :)but hey.. the Canadian dollar is almost at par TODAY!
thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I may end up using credit card rewards to just book it at $145...So you need to use points and $145/nite??As mentioned above, the counter-offer indicates that you'll likely be successful at some amount between $121 and $134 (which if i'm reading your post correctly would still be cheaper then your 'cash and points' option. Also, it's not clear (to me at least) what star rating your bidding... others have mentioned that you're bidding 4* but i don't see that indicated in your post, can you please confirm. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Schnooks Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 no.. our accumulated capital one credit card miles/points.. whatever they're called .. 30,000 miles covers betw $150-$350I am bidding 3.5* .. wanted the Chelsea for the family pool and loc. .. we had wanted to be close to the Danforth as we're considering a move.. but I don't like the Beaches hotel options and north of the Danforth seems too far. Was just checking the 4 star hotels.. looks like Sutton's pool is closed. So I'll try again today.Thanks.
Romelle Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 At the 3.5* level, at the moment there are 8 free-rebid zones. You could have lots more bids each day if you used the technique.Romelle
thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Are you familiar with and using your EIGHT re-bid zones? If not, see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and if you're knew to re-bidding you're strongly encouraged to confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding (or if you read the previous link and are confused just post back and we'll break it down for you)Also, are you only bidding Downtown North are are you also including Downtown South in your bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Schnooks Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 a bit of a mistake, but that's ok.. (was going for the Delta Chelsea)Bid Toronto North 3 1/2 * $88suggested to raise $24added Brampton zone, but didn't catch that Priceline automatically adds the 4*so I bid $91 (plus $6 bonus cash)got Marriott at $97looks nice.. just hope there's no fire alarms like the reviews say! (no pool tho.. but that's ok, we'll be busy)thanks for all the help
thereuare Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Congratulations on your success! The star rating you select is the []minimum you are willing to accept, which is why it was automatically checkmarked when you went to bid again (so even if you had bid $97 on your first bid for 3.5* this likely would have been the same result). Although not what you intended, glad to see you received a nice deal on this property and are happy with the outcome.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
