I prefer to be 4* MTE, but willing to go for any bargain (nice hotel, nice price, Manhattan).

I reviewed some of my prior posts, and have been unable to find warnings from thereuare - that is, he told me about certain zones at certain * levels might result in a 'win' that was a severe disappointment. My vague recollection is 'beware of MTE 3.5*' but I it seems like there were other zones, other stars to avoid, and I just can't remember.

So, this post is two fold. Can you remind me what I need to be watchful for?

Can you suggest a strategy for the best one night stay in October?

I have no budget/no backup plan at this time. I just started looking (actually there for 3 nights, got the Hilton Timeshare tour for 2, they wanted $299 for the 3rd night and I turned them down).

Most zones with 4* bidding are fine... Hells Kitchen can be a bit far West so you would need to make sure that something like the INK 48 would be acceptable.

At 3.5*, besides MTE, you need to watch out for CPS which has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms... may be fine for one nite if all you need is a bed to sleep on (as that's about all you'll get :) ) but a decision you'll need to decide if a small room is acceptable or not.

At the moment i'm guessing a 4* for this nite will cost you mid/hi-$200's... a 3.5* low/mid-$200's, is this within your expectations?

Not sure what days you're at the Hilton (nites before or after 10/20), but Saturday nite 10/22 is a bit cheaper, so if you could possibly stay at the Hilton 10/20-10/22, then add an extra nite elsewhere 10/22, i think that will save you a bit.

Let us know your thoughts on the prices above and if any date flexibility and we'll take it from there.
