Thrillhouse763 Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Will be visiting DC arriving 9/11 and leaving 9/14. I have been bidding for over a month using the boards PRICELINE link on 4* to 3* properties. The only areas I'm interested in are Georgetown Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, White House Downtown, and Convention Center Capital Hill because I will have no car.I have bid up to $130 with no success at all!My typical bid pattern is this.$95 4* - RejectAdd rebid zone$100 4* - RejectAdd rebid zone$105 4* - RejectAdd rebid zone$110 3.5* - Reject$115 3* - RejectThis is usually give or take $10 to $20.Ideally, I would like to not spend more than $140.
thereuare Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Eldon Suites for $133/nite (Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet) and gets pretty good reviews... 4.0/5.0 from Tripadvisor and a 90% recommended rating from previous HOTWIRE guests (as well as 4.5/5.0 ratings on most of the criteria HOTWIRE asks for feedback on)... would this work for your needs? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Thrillhouse763 Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 Yeah, I saw that a couple days ago and it's not really what I'm looking for. A more conventional hotel property would fit my needs.Thank you though for pointing that out.
thereuare Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 If you're going to continue to bid on PRICELINE i would use a different strategy then you have been, as your current bidding could have you overbid for the lower rated hotels. See If You Lower Your Star Rating then Lower Your Bid Price.Let us know if you're willing to bid up to $140 for at each star level (if not what is your maximum bid at each star level) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thrillhouse763 Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 I would greatly appreciate help with a bidding strategy.I would feel comfortable bidding up to $140 for a 4*, $120 or 3.5*, and $100 for 3*. If any of those max bids seem too high, please suggest a better value.
thereuare Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 If any of those max bids seem too high, please suggest a better value.Based upon current prices those bid amount actually seem low, i don't think you have a chance except maybe at the 3* level. At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones, at the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones, at the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Dupont, White House, Convention Center, Georgetown...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Dupont, White House, Convention Center, Georgetown...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Dupont and Whilte House...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Convention Center and Georgetown...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Convention Center and Whilte House...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Dupont and Georgetown...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Convention Center and White House and Dupont and Georgetown...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Thrillhouse763 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Thank you for your help and unfortunately (like you predicted) all my bids failed. To be successful, what do you think my max bid should be? I do have some flexibility in my range but my dates and zones are unchangeable. I am, just like everyone else here, looking for the best bang for my buck.Would I benefit by waiting a little longer? The rates during this period seem very high.
thereuare Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Eldon Suites for $135/nite. This property has not yet been reported to the board thru PRICELINE, and if they don't participate with PRICELINE (or are lower rated then 3* thru PRICELINE) then i think you're probably looking at ~$140-$160 to win a 3*hotel for these dates. However, this HOTWIRE property is well reviewed (4.0/5.0 on Tripadvisor) and gets a 90% recommendation from previous guests, so if this is acceptable, you may want to consider using $135 (or lower) as your maximum bid, then if rejected just take the HOTWIRE offer. I say $135 or lower as knowing this is one of the better 3* rated hotel (based upon the TA rating and HOTWIRE user recommendation percent) may be worth paying a bit more than bidding for 'any' hotel in the zones you select.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. If you want to try PRICELINE again let us know your new maximum bid and we'll revise the previous strategy accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thrillhouse763 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 I have seen the Eldon Suites on HOTWIRE but it's not what I am looking for. I am looking for a more traditional hotel. I can up my max bid to $160. Would there be any benefit to waiting a bit longer?
thereuare Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 I can up my max bid to $160.For a 3* property?Would there be any benefit to waiting a bit longer?See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.I have seen the Eldon Suites on HOTWIRE but it's not what I am looking for.
