Need 2 nights, 9/30-10/2 close to the Highline Park. Is Hotel Indigo the only 3.5* in the Chelsea area? I think that would be a good location but no idea if I can fit it in my budget of approx. $250. Any advice would be appreciated. I've never used Priceline before.

Few comments...

See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List... the lists are only hotels which have been reported to the board, and upgrades/downgrades happen frequently, so the lists can never be considered finite. As well, the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, so even if the Hotel Indigo is the only 3.5* property, your 3.5* bid could always be upgraded to a 4* hotel.

Have you ever been to NYC and/o the the Highline? The Highline is a nice way to occupy an hour or two (maximum, imo) and i wouldn't focus a 2 day trip around that immediate area unless you have reason to believe this is where you're going to be spending most of your time. As well, the Highline isn't that centrally located, so if you were target this specific area, you wouldn't be that close to the subway for times when you want to head elsewhere.

Lastly, NYC is so dense and mass transit relatively inexpensive and readily available, that if you're looking for the best deal possible, i would include as many zones as are acceptable, and let the one with the least expensive rate be the one to accept your lowest bid. It doesn't make sense to spend $50-$75 more to be in a specific zone when you could save $50-$75 to be in an adjacent zone and be a short walk, subway, bus or $10 taxi ride away from your ideal location.

Ultimately it's your stay so you need to be happy wit the area(s) you choose, so let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there. What are your plans for this visit to the city?

I get the feeling that the Chelsea area is kind of my vibe. Interesting architecture and such. Now that's only based on reading about it, not from actually having been there before. This is our first trip and we plan to get around the city quite a bit via Subway. I am really excited about the Highline park, so that's a big draw. I think that the Hotel Indigo is well located for transit but please advise me if you think I'm wrong. Priceline's website has only a few options in that area. One of my biggest questions is when I do a Name your own Price, is the hotel selection the same as what's advertised on their regular website? Or do they pull from additional hotels? Thank you so much for your advice.

The Hotel Indigo is well located, but you could receive a different hotel in the zone, and this hotel is not won very often, so i wouldn't necessary have your hopes focused on this one property. As well, while well located, i don't necessarily think it's worth 'paying up' for and 'chasing' it price-wise... but ultimately it's your stay so you need to be comfortable with the area(s) you choose.

PRICELINE uses a different universe of properties for their 'retail' listings and the hotels available thru 'name your own price'... see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ for more info.
