Hi all,

Looking for bidding advice for good placement downtown area / union square / embarcadero etc. We'll be there 9/1-9/5 and without a car so will make use of public transport as much as possible.

(We'll rent a car one day to go to wine country)

Location and price more important than hotel level. Hoping to get sub-$150/nt if possible.

Great message board and thanks in advance for any help

Thanks

Jess

If both were available which would you prefer: a 4* for $150 or 3* for $100?

How low in quality level will you go for savings? 3*? 2.5*? 2*?

Any chance of going to Wine Country on Thurs 9/1?
If you get in early enough this would be a good day (price-wise regarding hotel prices in San Francisco) to go to and staying in Wine Country.... if you get in late, is staying near the airport the first nite an option?

Due to travel schedule we're prefer to do wine country 9/2 or 9/3, but I think I'll try bidding for 9/2-9/5 and see what happens, if I get something I might have extra $ to book 9/1 conventionally or in another area.

Any other strategies to recommend?

For 9/1-9/5, Ive bid up to 130 for 4* in nob hill, wharf, ue, uw, japan town, fin/embarcadero

and up to 120 in the 3* without success (same zones)

Probably would prefer to stay 3* or above, but in your question would prefer a 3* for 100 to a 4* for 150.

The above implies that you're interested in the least expensive 3* or better for this stay, but the following bidding implies otherwise and that you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel:

For 9/1-9/5, Ive bid up to 130 for 4* in nob hill, wharf, ue, uw, japan town, fin/embarcadero

and up to 120 in the 3* without success (same zones)

What do you want to try next... a 4*, 3.5* or 3*? Which zones will you accept at this level (or higher) and what is your maximum bid?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.
