I am attempting to book a hotel in the NMA-River North area between 9/17-9/20. I have unsuccessfully bid up to $155 for a 4* in the NMA-River North area. I am considering changing to a 4* in the Millenium Park-Grant Park area, but after reading other posts, it looks like a bid up to $160 for a 4* was shot down in that area as well. Any suggestions? Should I try to lower to it to 3*? If so, where should I start my bidding? I usually like to stick to the 4*s as I have always had a good experience with the 4*s but my experience has been kind of hit or miss with the 3*s. I also learned from some other posts that it looks like there is a mid-sized convention in Chicago during this time period which is pushing prices up. My bad luck, I guess. Anyway, I am new to the board and would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks!

Have you looked at HOTWIRE?

While usually a little more expensive then HOTWIRE, if you decide to lower your star rating to 3.5* or 3* you'll at least be able to (reasonably) pick a 'good' one based upon the percent recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests, the Tripadvisor information (if shown), and the ability to take a guess as to which property you may receive.

Thoughts?

I have looked at Hotwire. It looks like the best I can do for a 4* is $172 in the Magnificant Mile - Streeterville area (80% recommended) or $148 in the same area for a 3* (85% recommended). Do you think I should take that or wait and continue to bid? And any idea what the ID of either of those hotels would be? Thanks again for your help.

As far as your next move it's really one of personal preference in regards to how you feel about the Loop zone vs. the NMA zone... how much you want a 4* vs. a 3.5*... if you'd like to have a guess as to the property you may receive vs. any property in the zone.

If you'd like help with the HOTWIRE properties offered please post the star rating, zone and amenities associated with the property offered and we'll have a look.

I'm think I would prefer to stay closer to Michigan Ave., if possible. But I am not picky by any means and I am willing to look into other hotels in the Loop area. Do you think I would have better luck there to land a better rate on these dates?

As for the hotwire hotel IDs, I am looking at a 4* in the Magnificant Mile Area - Streeterville ($172/night and 80% recommended by customers) and the amenities associated with the property include that it is a boutique hotel, smoke free rooms, fitness center, restaurants, business center and high-speed internet access. I am also looking at a 3* in the same area ($148/night and 85% recommended) and the amenities include include a fitness center, business center and high-speed internet access. I have used your link to bid in the past and I will continue to do so. Thanks again for your help.

The Loop zone is often, but not always cheaper than the NMA zone... no way to know for certain without bidding, but i don't think there is that much difference between the two zones for your dates. You could bid both together and let PRICELINE award you the one which has the lower price :)

The 4* Streeterville property matches multiple hotels... the Hotel Felix, Hotel Palomar and Hotel Sax have all been seen with this amenity set so any of these would be my best guess for this one (although i'd slightly favor the Hotel Felix as the most likely among the three).

The 3* matches an even greater number of properties... Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express Cass, Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Inn of Chicago, and River Hotel.... are possibilities.

I attempted to bid up to $150/night in both zones with no luck. I ended up finding a deal of Hotels.com for the Dana Hotel and Spa for $149.50/night (the site said the deal expires tonight at 9 PST). From the looks of its website and tripadvisor reviews, it looks like a great hotel. Thank you very much for all of your help. I will definitely use this site in the future when I am bidding on hotels on priceline or hotwire. Thanks again.
