freshstart19 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Hi. Trying to get a 4* in NYC for under $200 not including the taxes. I see prior bids have won for between $150 and $175. I went up to $195 and then started thinking I may switch to a 3.5 star so with the taxes, I could be under $200. We're going on a sunset cruise out of Chelsea Piers on Saturday. I tried bidding on MTE, TS, MTW, Chelsea, CPS and then 3 of the free rebids starting at $150 and then adding $5 each time up to $195. Is something going on this weekend in the city?Have never tried staying DTN which could be an option! Was thinking I was to check out the High Line on Sunday morning so was trying to avoid DTN.
AaronJB Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Good evening. :)Please provide the date/s of travel and we would be happy to take a look.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
freshstart19 Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 OOps! I forgot to say this Saturday, August 13th.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 HOTWIRE is offering a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $185/nite with Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Internet. These amenities are very common in NYC, but this does match previous reports of the W New York so that would be my best guess for this one, would this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. freshstart19 Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Thanks! I did see that before I started bidding and figured I could get a 4* for cheaper on PRICELINE. I usually don't bid higher than what I see on HOTWIRE. Thanks for the reminder. I'll either give the 3.5* bidding a shot and then run to HOTWIRE if that fails to come in lower.UPDATE: That 4*start on HOTWIRE is now $205. I'll try the 3.5* star later.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 That's the problem with using HOTWIRE has a back-up... the hotel and/or rate can disappear at any time.Keep us updated and let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help along the way. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. freshstart19 Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Well, I tried 3.5 and 4.0 with all the free rebids in all zones except DTN, MSG and ESB up to $210. No luck. So, I jumped on HOTWIRE and got the MTE 4* The Alex for $210; Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Internet. I've never heard of that one:-) I'll post this on the Hotwire forum so you have the win there. Thanks for your help! I've never had this much trouble in NYC before! I did use the HOTWIRE link here.
freshstart19 Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 $210 for 8/13/11 with amenities Fitness, Restaurant, Business, HiSpeed Internet. This hotel is a new one for me!
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Hope you're pleased with your purchase and this property will work well for your needs... it generally gets pretty good reviews. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing using the HOTWIRE link on the board and sharing your win, helping us add this property to the Hotwire Hotel List.Enjoy your stay. freshstart19 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Thanks for the bagel tip. It will be fun to stay someplace new, but it's far from Chelsea Piers where I'm sailing out of on Saturday night and it really wasn't a deal. I only saved $20 so that's disappointing. First time I haven't been pleased with my savings. Thanks again for this forum!
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 You could take the 4-5-6 to 14th St (or the 6 to 23rd St) and then take the bus crosstown... just leave a good cushion timewise as you never know how long the crosstown bus will take.Enjoy your stay. freshstart19 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Thanks for the subway info! I'll have to find a better way to crosstown. My husband won't do busses!!
thereuare Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 If you're not going to take the bus all the way to Chelsea Pier, you could then walk to 53rd St and take the E train to 14th or 23rd... then walk to Chelsea Pier... it's a 'moderate' walk. I didn't consider this option in my previous reply as i was trying to get you all the way to Chelsea Pier.Enjoy your stay.
