Teamfour Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I have never used Priceline before but have read a ton on this great site about the bidding and rebidding process. We are looking for 3* or 3.5* in the areas of ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TQ, or CPS for October 8-10. I'm not sure what a good starting bid is. Any advice? Thanks.
Teamfour Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Can I get a confirmation that I have 4 rebid zones at the 3.5* level, and only 1 rebid zone at the 3* level?BTW, we are trying to get a room for $200 max excluding taxes. Is this practical? Also, I have clicked Priceline a few times. :)Thanks again.
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Yes, you have FOUR re-bid zones at the 3.5* level and ONE re-bid zones at the 3* level.$200 may be enough for a 3.5* and will probably be enough for a 3*, however, a few things before we suggest a bidding strategy...At 3.5* and under there are some hotels in the MTE which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable? Also, in the CPS is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms... would this be acceptable? Lastly, let us know if you want to bid up to your limit first for a 3.5* before trying for a 3*... OR if your goal is the least expensive 3* or better and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Teamfour Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Access to the subways is not a critical factor for us as we love to walk all over NYC. We mainly hang around the TS area and if we need to go to the south end we take a taxi. We travel by train to Penn Station so I would put MSG, ESB, and TS up front, with MTE and MTW secondary, and CPS last. We would prefer a 3.5* and would bid up to our max for that before moving down to a 3*.
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 ...I would put MSG, ESB, and TS up front, with MTE and MTW secondary, and CPS last. Are you willing to pay more to stay in the first group of zones vs. MTE and/or MTW and/or CPS?Did you want to only bid the first 3 zones up to your limit before adding any of the other zones OR is price the most important factor and the least expesive 3.5* in any of the zones above is the goal? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 So to confirm, first step is a 3.5* in the MSG, ESB, or TS zones with a maximum bid of $200, correct? If so...At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG and ESB...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG and TS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG, ESB, and TS...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Teamfour Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 Thanks for the help. Travel plans changed and I no longer need a NYC hotel. However, I will be starting a new thread over in the San Juan PR area. See you there.
