Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC midtown 9/23-9/25

This is my first time using this website and first time posting. I've read my intro email and I tried to post this, but think I was on the wrong forum. Sorry if I did it wrong.

I've used Priceline twice before in NYC and wound up with two not-so-great hotels that were 3 and 3.5* so I am back planning only to go for 4*. We plan to see Broadway shows on Friday and Saturday night (9/23 and 9/24). We are not wedded to TS (from what I've read, probably shouldn't even want it!), but do want to be within a reasonable walk of the area. I saw that perhaps there is a UN meeting in session and on the calendar, one person got a hotel for $385. This is much more than I was hoping to spend, though my budget would allow it. I was hoping for something closer to $200! Any advice you can give would be great.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you want a 4* hotel my guess is that you're probably looking at the high-$200's or low-$300's (look at the bright side, it won't likely take $385 :) )

Alternately, if a 3.5* property would be acceptable, as long as you knew it was a 'decent' one, you could consider HOTWIRE where you can take a guess as to the hotel offered, as well as use the previous guest's recommended percent and Tripadvisor information to make sure it's one of the 'better' ones... 3.5* hotels thru HOTWIRE are currently looking ~$250.

Let us know your thought and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. If PRICELINE, let us know which zones you're willing to accept and your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sorry for the delay on my response. Thanks for your fast response. I didn't know how to be notified without all new topics being emailed to me.

I stayed at the New Yorker Hotel, which is 3.5* and the room was tiny and the bathroom was freezing and the lobby was noisy. I wasn't thrilled (and it is listed as 4/5 on Trip Advisor). I'm more inclined toward the Priceline 4*. The zones I'd be willing to accept are: MTW, MTE, TS, CPS, HK. MSG would be fine, too, but I see that there are only 3.5* located there.

Budget. So based on Hotwire, it looks like I could get something under $325 for sure but $350 would open up more zones, but I still have some time. So let's say $325. Thanks!

I've been trying for several weeks to get a 4* or 3.5* for under $200 and not having any luck. I reserved a backup that I can cancel: Country Inn and Suites in Long Island City for $153 night, senior rate, with breakfast. But I'll still keeping bidding on PRICELINE.

On www.quikbook.com I just reserved for these dates (Sept. 23rd for 2 nights) a 4* "Deluxe Theater District" hotel for $209 a night plus tax. It's under their "Secret Sales" and is nonrefundable. They will notify me within 24 hrs. of the actual name of the hotel and I will report back.

The hotel I got on quikbook for these dates is the Flatotel at 135 West 52nd St., between 6th and 7th Avenues. Their cheapest rate on their website for the same dates is $323 a night. I hope this helps someone. I'd been trying unsuccessfully for weeks to get a hotel through Priceline.

I tried the pricing strategy. I kept getting that the bid was rejected. When I got to $320, I was told that something wasn't lining up with my credit card. What I didn't take into account was the crazy taxes, so that 320 was really going to cost 390. My boyfriend and I decided that 390 a night was absurd and searched for other options and found a place for military members that costs 140 a night including taxes even for senior officers. So we are going with that. As unromantic as it is, I'd still take saving $500 over two days. Thanks for your assistance.
