W C Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Hey everyone. I would greatly appreciate any help or tips anyone has to get a 4 or 5 star room on the Strip (or even off the Strip) with a max budget of $120/night from 10/6 to 10/9. Are there any hotels fitting that criteria that aren't really that great or I should be worried about getting if the bid is accepted? Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Best guess for each would be as follows:1) Monte Carlo (4* Strip South)2) Palms Place (4.5* Near Strip West)3) Signature at MGM Grand (4.5* Strip South)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.EDIT to ADD: Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. I've just merged your PRICELINE thread here... are you no longer interested in the HOTWIRE properties above? What exactly is it that you're looking for from this stay and what, price, location, star rating, is most important for this trip? W C Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Hi. I'm looking to pay a max of $125/night for the best hotel I can find in Vegas either on the Strip or Strip adjacent (namely, Hard Rock or Palms). Definitely would love to get a 5 star, but willing to go to a 4 star. Which would be the better service to use -- Hotwire or Priceline? And what is the best strategy? Do Hotwire prices change at all closer to the dates I'm interested in? Up or down?
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Just like traditional hotel rates, PRICELINE and HOTWIRE rates fluctuate based upon supply/demand (ie- hotel occupancy levels, new reservations, cancellations, etc).... and just like you can't predict if traditional rates will go up or down between now and your stay, you won't be able to accurately guess which direct rates will move between now and your stay. For additional reading see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE gives you the ability to take a guess as to which property you may receive based upon amenities shown before your purchase, as well as know how previous guests rated the hotel.Since the Palms (and i'm assuming the Palms Place) is one of your preferred hotels, is not not worth an extra $7/nite to try to stay there? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. W C Posted August 12, 2011 Author Report Posted August 12, 2011 I used Priceline and got a room for the dates at the Monte Carlo for $105/night. $100/night bid and $5/day bonus cash. Thanks for your help! And I of course went to PRICELINE through this site!
AaronJB Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Not a bad deal for this Vegas property! Hope you are looking forward to your stay.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
butterla Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Nice work! I am looking to get the same deal (4* Vicinity South) for 10/7 to 10/10. Could you elaborate on your bidding strategy for you Monte Carlo win? Thanks in advance!
W C Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Sure. I knew that I wanted to bid a maximum of $100 and preferred the 4 star hotels in the South Strip. There are five zones that don't offer 4 star hotels. So I started the bidding at $75 only selecting the South Strip zone. I then added each zone that doesn't offer a four star option and increased my bid by $5 each time. Unfortunately, I didn't get a hit below my max, but I was satisfied with getting the room. I think the primary strategy is setting the maximum price you're willing to pay and go down from there. Never hurts to try!
thereuare Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 There are five zones that don't offer 4 star hotels. So I started the bidding at $75 only selecting the South Strip zone.Note that while Summerlin does NOT currently contain 4* hotels, it does contain Resort class properties, and therefore is not a re-bid zone. The star rating you choose is the minimum you're willing to accept, and PRICELINE can always upgrade your 4* bid to a higher (Resort) class property, so Summerlin should NOT be used as a re-bid zone at the 4* level... thus making only FOUR re-bid zones at the 4* level. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
