Kozachka Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Started bidding on hotel in Del Mar using PRICELINE link at the top of the page, went from $50 to $97 using re-bids and re-starting search several time from the PRICELINE link with no luck. Wondering if hotel prices too high for these dates or if it is difficult ot get a room for a week using Priceline. $97 was my reservation price since it's how much I'd have to pay if I were to book a room at Doubletree Del Mar using extended stay rate less 10% AAA discount (need to confirm in the morning if it applies) less cost of self parking at Hilton Del Mar ($17). I'd still be saving some on taxes if I were to win a room through Priceline but not enough to entice me to bid higher, at least not for now. Do you recommend I split the stay in half?
thereuare Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 You can try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, but my guess is that you're just facing a busy time during the summer season, and the rate at the Doubletree does seem to be very good, especially with parking included.Let us know what you ultimately decide and if we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or our Doubletree link if you go that route.Good luck. Kozachka Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 I bid $70 for 3.5* property in Del Mar-Rancho Santa Fe using PRICELINE link on this site and my bid was immediately accepted by Hilton Del Mar. Made me wonder if I bid too high but I did fair bit of research before bidding, and knew that this is a good price for these dates and area, even taking into consideration $17/day self-parking, so am more than content with the outcome. I tried to extend my stay by a day at the same rate, which is normally an option, but my request was rejected by the hotel.
thereuare Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Looks like a very nice deal, especially since you were rejected at higher bid amounts just a few days prior. Was this for your full date range of 8/14-8/20 or only a sub-set of this date range?Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Kozachka Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 Thanks! Sorry for not clarifying the dates, I thought I mentioned it but the deal above is for 8/14-8/19. When I tried to extend my stay for another day, my bid got rejected. So I am still bidding for another hotel night in the area for 8/19.
