Hello,

Started my bidding @ $80 and going up by $5 everyday using the permuations all the way upto $120. I have now started going up by $1/day. I would like to know when and if I should consider using 3.5* in my bids and dropping back down.

My wife and I used Priceline last Jan. for 10 days and received the Wailea Marriott for $111/ night. We were very impressed with the location other then no beach directly infront but I'm not sure why we are having a harder time this yr, thoughts................

Still no luck.

Started 16 bids at $125 for Resorts and 4*'s, then went to 16 bids at $126 for Resorts and 4*'s.

Finished off with 8 bids at $70 and 8 bids at $75 for 3 1/2* deluxe and was turned away.

What point do I just consider going straight for 3 1/2* deluxe instead of continuing on the resort/4* hunt? $130?

Anthony,

Rates are higher this year over last year for lots of locations.

Regarding when to quit on a higher star level and start bidding on a lower one, it is really is a matter of what the added features of a Resort or 4* are worth to you. And your budget.

What are your dates? If your stay is still several months away, the hotels might not have placed rooms in Priceline's inventory yet. In that case, it would make sense for you to continue bidding as you have been doing - starting low and working up each time.

Romelle,

Sorry, the dates this yr. are Feb 5-14, 2012.

I don't really think that the resorts or 4* have that much more in way of features that I can see online and from what I remember down there but I do like the vacinity to the ocean. I think the resorts and 4* have the better real estate.

I really don't like the resort fees added to most of the properties nowadays but that's life I guess........

I start with Wailea, then add other three via permutations.

The Ka'anapali-Lahaina zone contains Resort class properties too... are you including this in your bidding and is this zone acceptable as well?

Although if you're using $130 as your maximum bid i think that may be a tough win based upon current rates, if you really prefer a Resort, do you want to be 'compromising' your star rating 6 months ahead of your stay?
