premieresba Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 I have only bid with Priceline and been successful, mainly because I was not set in a particilar location. I will now be traveling to Toronto with my husband and he would like to stay downtown only. I submitted a bid for $45 for a three star and as rejected. When I tried to go back to re-bid I see that both 4 Star and 3 Star are checked. If anyone could provide some insight as to how I can get a great hotel in downtown Toronto that would be great. We will be staying from 7/31 until 8/4 and I will be needing to get a rental car as well but since we will be arriving in Toronto on the 29 I cannot book both as a package. Thanks in advance for any assistance.Best,Robin
thereuare Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Don't know when your last bid was made so you may have to wait 72 hours to employ the strategy presented below. When bidding 3* in Toronto you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read PRICELINE RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board. This is how i would bid:Select 3* Toronto Downtown...Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $56, if rejected close browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 3* Toronto Downtown and re-bid zone2...Bid $61, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $65.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. premieresba Posted June 2, 2005 Author Report Posted June 2, 2005 Thanks so much. Here is the situation. I bid $45 on a 4* hotel and it was accepted. However I need to travel away for the Toronto area for a day so I will be staying in another hotel on 7/30. I would like to get back to downtown for 4 nights from 7/31 - 8/4. My bid was rejected at the $45 for a 4*. If I understand correctly, I should try my re-bid by looking at other locations (zones) that do not have 4* hotels while raising the bid slightly, am I correct? If not accepted I can re-bid by adding another zone that again does not have any 4* hotels listed and up my offering. If I am off the mark, please let me know. Here is the information on the hotel I did obtain for $45Date 7/29/05Marriott Toronto Bloor Yorkville
thereuare Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 I have moved your other win to its own thread here: PRICELINE MARRIOTT, please confirm (in that thread) that i have the dates, price, zone, etc correct. (i deleted it when i moved the thread, the Marriott on Bloor is a 3* or 4*?)Regarding Re-Bidding, it seems as if you have it correct, but note that you are NOT using the hotel lists from the board to determine which zones do not have 3* properties. The correct way to determine re-bid zones is explained in the above link, and if you're new to re-bidding it is HIGHLY recommended you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. Also, are you looking for a 4* or a 3* property? The strategy above is for a 3*, if you are looking for a 4* let us know your maximum bid and we'll supply a new strategy for a 4* property as you'll then have more re-bid zones to use. premieresba Posted June 2, 2005 Author Report Posted June 2, 2005 Basically I am looking for a nice hotel in Downtown Toronto, near all the action for the best price possible. 4* would be wonderful, but I am very happy with the Marriott bid I was able to obtain. Here is my plan.I would like to bid the following on a 3*1. Bididng $50 on DT Toronto2. If rejected re-bidding $56 and adding Zone 1, Scarborough3. If rejected re-bidding $61 adding Zone 2 Don Valley4. If rejected re-bidding $65 adding Zone 1 Scarborough. Also, if it would not be too much trouble, if I would be interested in a 4*, what would the bididng look like and what should I gauge as a maximum price, based on the considered opinion of the group?I hope to become as knowledgeable as possible and pass along my tips as I wind my way through the system.Again, I thank you.
thereuare Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Don Valley is not a re-bid zone as they do offer 3* hotels in that area.List all the Toronto zones and then next to each list the highest star rating available in that area. You can see the highest star rating in that area by selecting the zone at Priceline, clicking NEXT, then seeing the highest rating; repeat that process (selecting only one zone at a time) for each zone in the region. To supply a 4* strategy (where you have 9 re-bid zones) you'll need to let us know your maximum bid so that the strategy we provide meets your desired budget.
