Priceline Hotel: Bidding Strategy 4* Manhattan Dec 5 - Dec 9

Taking my wife to Manhattan for our anniversary Dec 5 - Dec 9. I understand this is high season but would like to try for MTW-CPS-ESB-TS. Want 4* with MTW and CPS preferred. Willing to go up to $225 since it seems that may be my only option but would obviously like to to lowball first just in case.

My understanding is that my rebid zones are Coney Island - LIC - MSG - Queensborough Bridge and upper East Side. I have never done this before so am a little unsure of the process but I have read through everything a few times and think I can manage. I currently have a room just inside LIC but want something more central and am willing to pay a bit more for my wife's comfort.

Thanks in advance for the bidding strategy. Will be sure to bid through this site and post my success.

Sorry for the piggyback, but I have an almost identical interest in a 4* hotel in Manhatten from December 5-11. I am interested in the same advice, with the addtional question whether it would be better to wait a month or two to make the bids.

No apologies needed. I wanted to do this to a few people myself. No reason to clog up the boards if we are searching for the same properties. Good luck to both of us!

mihusky,

Please do start a NEW TOPIC for your own stay as your dates as rates are date specific and your dates are not identical to those in this thread (even one day difference can make a big difference in rates) and as i think these are going to be difficult dates, your wants and that of the OP's may begin to differ... one may want to increase their bid amount, one may want to lower the star rating, one may want to consider other zones, etc, etc. You can feel free to continue to post in this thread, but for help with your own stay, please start a NEW TOPIC, we've found that this makes the board better organized and from a moderation point of view, easier to keep the advice for your stay, and needs, separate from that of the OP's.

somahead,

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At the moment I'm doubtful that $225 is going to be enough for a 4*, but you can try as follows:

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (from your post above you have your re-bid zones correct, but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed)

Well you were right as $225 was not enough to get me a room for these dates. Shows how clueless I am as I had originally thought it would be cheaper this time of the year. Any estimate of the rates I could get at a 3.5* or do I need to up my offer a bit? Or would an additional $25 nab me a four star. I would hate to lose out for $100 when I am already looking at a grand for the week.

So I am understanding that MTE can place me pretty far from the subway which is not really acceptable for the time of the year we are going so I may want to cut that out from my bidding. Could I get a strategy for 3.5* for MTW-TS-CPS-EPS up to $225. Or is this still not enough for the time of year?

Just a quick update on my progress so far. Tried the same bidding strategy only this time at 3.5*. Took out MTE and CPS and added Hell's Kitchen. So my properties were MTW-TS-ESB-HK. All were unsuccessful through bidding up to $225. Thinking about lowering my stars to 3 and proceeding.

Well, after numerous attempts all the way down to 3* I decided to see what I could get through package deals and came across a flight/bundle that puts me back at The Jewel hotel across for Rockefeller which is the property my wife fell in love with this summer. Paying $250/night including all fees which is less then my max bids would have been through Priceline. I really do appreciate all the help offered here and will definitely return for future bookings. It just became apparent that Manhattan in December was not going to provide many deals through bidding. Thanks again.
