madmoose Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Hello, I'm travelling to NYC and I'd like a room for 2 from 9/27/11 until 10/2/11.I booked via Hotwire (thanks to this site) last year and got a great deal, so I'm planning to give Priceline a go and see if I can do as well this year.I think I've got my head around the bidding system, but would appreciate some expert advice just in case!Ideally I'd like a 4* hotel in either ESB / CPS / MTE / MTW. Not too keen on the FD or TS.I'm thinking perhaps a budget of $200 per night - do you think that's realistic for a 4* in these areas for my dates?Any help would be appreciated.
AaronJB Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 $200 is worth a try, but I think unfortunately you're likely looking at $220-230 for a 4* for these dates in these zones, and possibly a tad higher. Rates during the Fall do really pick up, from around Sept-mid Dec.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 I agree that you're likely looking around the $225 area, but with the four zones you're bidding, and multiple re-bid zones, you'll be able to start low and increase to whatever maximum bid you choose. Let us know if you'd like a strategy to go to $200 or if you're willing to bid higher for a 4* (up to $230??) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. madmoose Posted August 4, 2011 Author Report Posted August 4, 2011 Thanks for getting back to me. I'd like help with a strategy bidding up to $200 for my 4* choices. If this is unsuccessful (I'm assuming I might be) then I am thinking I could lower the star rating to 3.5*. Although unsure whether to stick to the same 4 areas? Do you think it's possible to get a 3.5* in those areas for $200 or less?Strategies on how to get the best value hotel in one of these central areas for my budget would be appreciated.I'm also planning to head up to Boston before NYC, so depending on how I get on with this one, I might use priceline for there too.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Let's start with the 4* level and if unsuccessful we'll then look at your options and zones at the 3.5* level. At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. madmoose Posted August 5, 2011 Author Report Posted August 5, 2011 I tried the first strategy without success. Then got into the swing of things with Priceline and bid higher - up to $225SUCCESS - I managed to get the Intercontinental Barclay 4* for $225 per night! A little bit more than we intended to pay, but really pleased with the hotel. :) :) :o Thanks for the help.
