ratdaddy75 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 First of all, great website. I am looking to book our first trip to Vegas for my wife's 30th birthday for 9/8 through 9/13 and would really like the Venetian or Palazzo. The Wynn looks nice also. Am I correct in reading through the site that these are the only three possibilities if I choose 5 star north strip? I DO NOT want the Trump, but it looks like I would have to choose 5 star strip north-condo to get Trump... is that also correct? Any suggestions on what the bidding strategy should be? I'm hoping to book in the range of $120 to $150/nt. Another question I have is if there is the optimum time to bid to get the lowest price? Just whenever, or closer to the stay? Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! (and thanks for the compliments on the site :) )Please start by reading your messages. The three hotels you mentioned are the only 5* hotels in this zone reported to the board, there could always be others and new hotels are added to the system, and others are upgraded/downgraded, so there will never a 'finite' list of hotels. See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List.Based upon the current zones and boundaries, you can safely avoid the Trump by NOT bidding the Strip North Condo zone.As far as when to bid, there is no set answer for that, see the related 'Bid Early or Late' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.At the 5* level you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Strip North...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected, i'll point out that i think you can get a 5* in the South Strip (likely the Vdara) for well under the bids above, if that is of any interest to you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ratdaddy75 Posted August 4, 2011 Author Report Posted August 4, 2011 Thanks for the help, used the PRICELINE link and bid incrementally up to $140 yesterday using all safe rebid zones with no luck. Tried again this morning starting $10 higher and went up to $150, again no luck. Will try again tomorrow. Really prefer to stay at one of these north strip properties. May end up having to pay a little more than I want, but I've got some time. Thanks again!

ratdaddy75 Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 Been taking it up to $160 everyday, still no luck. Going to book a reservation directly with the Palazzo for safety, then keep trying. Who knows, maybe as it gets closer to my stay they'll be a little more willing to accept. Thanks for the help.
ratdaddy75 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 Decided to take it up to $170/night once I saw that the prices quoted on Venetian/Palazzo websites did not include the resort fee (I thought they did and only PL didn't). Won it for $170/night at the Venetian. Current price for those dates direct from the hotel is $219/night. Thanks for the help and for the great website!Question, does it do any good to call now to request non-smoking, or should I just wait until I get there? I also plan to attempt the $20 tip upgrade trick, will post how that turns out. Thanks again.
AaronJB Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very good result for this Vegas 5* - I'd call ahead for non-smoking and ask if they can note the request in your reservation.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
pyro224 Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 Hello, do you mind sharing your bid strategy?i am looking to book something similar to thisthank you
thereuare Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 pyro224,In the second post above you can see the base priceline bidding strategy that was used, but after $150 was rejected, s/he decided to bid higher.HOWEVER, i'll point out that rates are date specific, and whatever dates you're searching for may require a higher/lower bid. If you'd like help with an upcoming stay feel free to start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
