Hi

I bid $75 for a 3 star for July 27th to July 30th in North Michigan Avenue, River North. My bid was unsucessful but when I tried to do the free re-bid as mentioned on this website - no matter which other area's I click on the same star ratings keep coming up. What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be great.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread... if you ultimately use PRICELINE we'll then move the entire thread to that section of the board.

After your rejected bid, the NMA-River North zone is pre-selected and can't be UNchecked. When checking your re-bid zones you must select only one zone at a time, so in order to 'clear the slate' and not have NMA-River North selected, you need to close the browser and re-access PRICELINE.

If you use the search box on the top right of this page, you'll be take directly to the page you need to view, and form there you can check your re-bid zones. If you do that, are you now able to identify the FOUR re-bid zones you have when bidding 3* in this region?

Thankyou for your response.

So when I open up the PRICELINE website from the link on your website - do I need to login again - so that priceline knows I am rebidding?

Just to confirm this is what I think I should be doing: open priceline browser - put through a search for what I want - "North Michigan Ave - River North Area" a three star hotel. When I get to the name your price page - I instead select only a different area of town from where I actually want to stay based on whatever area has only hotels which are one star less than the River North Area (therefore 2.5 stars and lower) and bid slightly higher than I had initially bid (my initial bid for where I want to stay was $75 which got rejected) so this time I should bid $77? (Actually I'm unsure - do I also select my orginal area where I want to stay?)

Sorry for the silly questions - first time doing this - have read your instructions but scared that I'm going to click on the wrong thing and get stuck with a hotel in the middle of nowhwere! Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mandy

Okay I just took a chance and I think I got it now.

My original bid: North Michigan Avenue - River North Area - 3 star hotel - I bid $75 - rejected

Now I added: Lincoln Park where the highest rated hotel is - 2.5 star - I increased my bid to $77 - rejected

What do you suggest I bid now when I add a third area which doesn't have anything higher than a 2.5 star?

Your help is appreciated :-)

Hi

My maximum including taxes and fees is $100. I just re-bid using a third zone - Hide Park but I forgot to change the price so I ended up bidding:

$77 for a three star with the following zones: North Michigan Avenue - River North Area, Lincoln Park and Hyde Park - and thats been rejected :-(

I looked at all the other zones for a fourth zone I could use but there are no other zones which have a 2.5 star or less.

What to do now?

THanks,

Mandy

You do currently have FOUR re-bid zones when bidding 3* in Chicago.

List all the zones in the area, and use the method in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, provide the highest star rating avaialble in each zone and list your findings here. Also, provide your maximum bid amount (before taxes and fees) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Hi,

I actually have to change my dates of travel to July 27 -30 (previously was July 27-31).

I've now rebid on the same area ( North Michigan Ave - River North Area - for a 3 star hotel) - my starting bid was $70 - which has been rejected.

My four rebid zones are:

Franklin Park - 1 star

Hyde Park - 2 star

Lincoln Park - 2.5 star

Midway Airport North - 1 star

Should I now rebid on a 3 star starting by adding Franklin Park and then going forward? How much should I increase my bid each time?

Thanks for your time in helping me!

I would suggest the following, using your FOUR re-bid zones.

Select 3* NMA-River North...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone (already bid)...

Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80

My guess is that you'll likely need to increase a bit over $80 to be successful for a 4* hotel in this zone, but you can try the above first and we'll take it from there.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your tip - just one thing I'm confused about...each time I rebid do I keep adding on another bid ie by the time I bid for the fourth time I would have 4 zones selected? Or do you just add your original (NMA -River North) plus a different rebid zone everytime?

Okay so no luck...my goal was a 3 star hotel in North Michigan Ave - River North Area - as I figure this is where I can save the most money?

Bid $70 - River North Area - rejected

Bid $73 - River North Area and Hyde Park - rejected

Bid $75 - River North Area and Lincoln Park - rejected

Bid $78 - River North Area and O'hare Airport North - rejected

Bid $80 - River North Area and Franklin Park - rejected

What to do now? Try the same except with a 4 star, starting again at $70?

The star rating you select is the minimum that you are willing to accept, so if you placed the above bids at the 3* level, PRICELINE has already checked those zones for a 4* hotel when you made the previous bids. This isn't to say you couldn't be successful bidding 4* with the same prices, but the odds are very low, as a 4* hotel would have needed to change their rates downward since the last time you bid.

I think you'll need to raise your bid to the $90-$110 area or you can consider adding the Loop zone if that works for your needs.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Just wanted to let members know that I bid for my hotel on the day that I wanted to check in. Had been bidding for two weeks with no luck, so thought we would leave to last minute. Bid for 3 star hotel in the Chicago downtown area. Got a selection of 7 hotels - and finally scored Hotel Indigo Gold Coast at $90 - the actual price on priceline was $211 so I did pretty well I thought.

Congrats on your success. :)

Very nice deal for this Indigo property, which I think is a nice hotel - hope you enjoyed your stay.
